Who’s got the best Public Access TV show? Oh yeah, I think you know.

For the third year in a row, the Austin Chronicle Reader’s Poll has recognized that The Atheist Experience is the best God Damned show on Public Access Television.  Thank you, thank you for your votes.

Oh yeah, here’s the blurb we got.  I really like it.

Around the time Richard Dawkins was on a book tour for Unweaving the Rainbow, a scrappy cast and crew of Austin’s own The Atheist Experience was exploring atheism, ethics, reason, and science – taking calls from true believers and nonbelievers alike. Fifteen years and more than nine million (!!!) YouTube hits later, the shows keep on coming like clockwork. Yes, but who … made … the clock?!?! (Humans.)

Btw, I lost my beautiful pentacostal gf 4 years ago because I was watching your show. :(

Why were you dating a Pentecostal exactly? Great sex?

      1. ericvon germania

She was really beautiful…but “no sex until the marriage” :(

        1. Lord Narf

Umm, so what made it worth it? I wouldn’t date a Christian unless she was a complete hypocrite when it came to the moral stuff. I couldn’t marry a Christian, so I would only be in it for short-term fun.

Her eyes and smile… But ya, I have learned my lesson from that “atheist experience” and since then I don’t loose time with christian girls, if she is too fundy I run as fast as I can, if she is liberal I try to test it reasonbly fast if it is true. :)

Congratulations, TAE! You guys deserve it.

How do they figure only 9 million YouTube hits? I see plenty of individual clips of the show with several hundred thousand hits. The total number of hits has got to be at least 50 million … or possibly many times that.

What did they add up to come to their figure?

I’m guessing by going on the official channel and counting views. A true estimate would be impossible, as I know for certain that some of the earlier fan clips with many views were on channels that got deleted or Dmca d

Clearly, they’ve gotten at least 50 brazillion views.

Does this makes the decision to stop broadcasting harder? Maybe you could run the call-in out of your new headquarters streaming, then just broadcast the tape. If people call in take their number and call them back on call-in day! like click-n-clack and other shows.

It would certainly be nice if they could fix the damned phones. The duplex problems are aggravating as hell, for everyone involved. A few episodes, Matt’s looked about ready to snap, over it.

    I like that we’re “scrappy.”

Congrats ! Reality is really starting to kick in.

I think it’s great. The only thing is, you guys don’t have a Youtube channel…the videos that they are talking about are videos uploaded by fans.

And here’s my pet peeve with the show (and atheist conferences in general): why does the tech really suck? The audio is bad, the calls are not screened very well (why does matt from oslo keep getting in), there’s insufficient contact information on the websites, there’s no facebook group for the show (lots of fan sites etc, but no one cohesive place to go).

“The only thing is, you guys don’t have a Youtube channel…”

Yes they do. Go to youtube and type in “Atheist Experience”. Their channel is the first thing to pop up.

“And here’s my pet peeve with the show (and atheist conferences in general): why does the tech really suck? The audio is bad, the calls are not screened very well (why does matt from oslo keep getting in),”

They have to use the studio tech. That’s why there’s so much talk of using their own tech in their own building, along with perhaps expanding the show’s time. I don’t really understand why the show keeps getting awards, and yet they seem to be getting jerked around with the time (used to be an hour and a half) and with the “fifth Sunday” crap (I don’t really understand that organizational structure at all–is there really a show that books “fifth Sundays”?).

” there’s insufficient contact information on the websites,”

I don’t know about that. If you go to their website, it has contact info in several places, including at the bottom of the page.

” there’s no facebook group for the show (lots of fan sites etc, but no one cohesive place to go).”

There is a facebook page for the show. Google “atheist experience facebook”. It’s the first result.

Congratulations! I guess all that praying to be #1 really works! You guys & gals, all deserve a raise now you are indeed the best.
What surprises me is how do you keep winning when your show is from a city with a huge xian majority? I mean i’m sure you are better than any religious show or any how-to show on public access but with all the xians there, how do you keep winning?

    -Various answers.

5 week = the week at the studio that people who do not have a series can get studio time.
We have to balance use for the community as a whole. Until we implemented the 5th week NO-Series reservations, it was much harder for an independent mediaArtist to get into the studio.

Phones = Time Warner is on a 5 second delay, because of HD channel transcoding.
the Non-Profit can NOT fix this “feature” that TimeWarner has introduced…
ALSO, the caller who is calling in needs to turn down their TV & listen over the phone.
