Since we’ve been getting a flurry of panicked emails about Google Video shutting down from people who fear the entire Atheist Experience video archive is about to vanish into the ether, I thought a general “calm the ravening hordes” post was in order. We are, in fact, cognizant of the concept of backups, and in addition to having everything stored ourselves, we’ve got our current episodes on blip.tv now. Anything you can’t see there should be obtainable on DVD-R. So business will continue uninterrupted. Fear not.

Sorry if I was a bother for emailing you. I thought it was better safe than sorry. Thanks for the prompt reply as well, Martin.

Not a bother at all, Kargoneth. We appreciate that our viewers are concerned. But in these cases where we suddenly find ourselves swamped with a flurry of emails about the same thing from several people at once, it's easiest to write one response here and then link people to it.

Would it be ok to rip the archive off Google Video and to make a torrent out of them?

So all the videos on Google Video will only be available via DVD-R? Would it be OK for me to monitor the archive from Google Video?

Marko: I don't see why that would be a problem. Our shows are under a Creative Commons Copyright, so people can pretty much do what they like with them as long as they don't alter them without proper crediting of the original or try to claim full authorship. Share and share alike. A big torrent wouldn't be a bad idea, I don't think.

I've heard nothing about this. I've been watching the old, old episodes from the archives on google video. I'm up to #389. Are those old ones going to be hosted somewhere to stream online, or will I need to buy the DVDs if I want to watch the rest?

MIRROR: http://www.umidl.com/ae/I've downloaded about 1/2 of the (video) archive so far and should have the other half in about 2-3 days. I have all of 2006, 2007, and part of 2008 so far.Currently the web interface is minimal, but I'll improve it when I'm done with classes in a few weeks. If there is a spinning animation next to a video, it means that video is currently downloading from google video and to wait.I've got ~400GB of bandwidth a month on a 100Mbit connection so hopefully that'll be enough.

Dark-Thank you very much for the AWESOME archive. Saving the videos and even converting them to mp3 for all of us is a fantastic gift. It must have taken a good amount of time and effort (in addition to the continuing maintenance costs) and I wanted to let you know it is much appreciated. As a new fan of the show (early 2009) I had become somewhat addicted to watching/listening to older episodes while working. This archive is going to make work and commuting much more enjoyable. To all of those associated with The Atheist Experience – keep up the great work. You have a solid fan base here in Southern California.
