Christian Misses the Meaning of Santa Claus

Richard Land is pissed that even if you celebrate Christmas, you don’t really mean it in the way HE wants.

It is apparently terrible being a Christian during Christmas. From Richard Lang’s prospective as a good little Xian who goes to church twice a week, Santa is just another Golden Calf and we are all certainly damning ourselves to hell following the false idol.

But, from what I understand about our World, Santa is supposed to be a Golden Calf. He is the gateway god of the Christians along with the Easter Bunny. Two mythical figures added to the cannon to help convince pagans to come over to the fold. The same principle behind magicking Christmas and Easter to end up being celebrated on the solstices. So,Richard ends up complaining that Americans have embraced the wrong god and they can’t seem to move away from Starter Santa and get into the heaver stuff with Homeslice Christ.

He ends up identifying the source of the problem, secularism. I say bullshit. [Read more…]

Congress Sets Record

The new gold standard in disdain.

Congress’ approval rating has sunk to a new all-time record low, with just 11% of Americans approving of the job our elected legislature is doing. Which means Congress’ supporters have dwindled down to blood relatives and their favorite lobbyists, thankfully for the congressmen and women there are so many lobbyists working in D.C. these days that their approval ratings can’t possibly get much lower. The Endorsement Newt Doesn’t Want

Adultery centric dating site, Ashley Madison, endorses the cheating-prone candidate.

In my benign travels around the internet (read: porn), I have stumbled across occasional advertisements for Ashley Madison, an internet dating service geared to those who are already in a relationship. But now, the site which gets about 700,000 unique visits a month has finally found a candidate they can get in bed with, behind the backs of the other candidates of course.

The dating service recently put of a billboard proclaiming the beginning of the “Ashley Madison era”, where an admitted multiple adulturer can be the Republican front-runner. [Read more…]

The Wrong Route

Scientology tries to weasel its way into the minds of the disenfranchised during the year of protest.

The Route Out. On the surface, this website appears to be nothing special. The site, at first glance, is just another bland political action site attempting to raise a “grassroots” movement out of “nothing” with a heavy handed organizational structure.

The Route Out is smothered in Americana, quotes and images from founding documents abound. The wording of the site’s overarching message is so whitewashed, mundane, and apolitical that Tea Partiers and OWSers nodded along with the message, even if it is pretty simplistic. [Read more…]

All time low for Lowe’s

Home improvement store pulls ads from Muslim reality show.

The Florida Family Association knew something was fishy about the show “All-American Muslim.” The family portrayed on the reality show was clearly living a lie, unlike the real Americans portrayed on the “Real Housewives of whatever-ville” or the standup personalities featured on “The Jersey Shore.” This Muslim family was a plant, pure and simple. An insidious plot to destroy America as we know it via a clever Leave it to Beaver approach.

The Florida Family Association was shocked by this trojan-horse portrayal of a normal American family but, thankfully the FFA soon recuperated and went on the offensive in the name of glorious freedom. They encouraged other sound minded persons across the nation to help defend America from imminent defeat at the hands of the enemy. [Read more…]

The Cost of Free Speech

Wisconsin Administration drags its feet on controversial new protest law.

We Americans are having to slowly adjust to the uncomfortable reality that money now equals free speech and that the more money you have, the more “free” speech you can use to push the opposition into irrelevancy. In a system of government that is supposed to protect the rights of the minority, most who visit and write at FtB see the citizens united decision as an infringement on American freedom.

But compared to the new protest laws under consideration in Wisconsin, citizens united somehow seems downright fair. At least C.U. gave the minority the slimmest chance to dissent, now in Wisconsin you might not even be able to exercise you right to free speech against the government without forking up cash beforehand. Any gathering of four or more persons espousing a political message will have to file for a permit 72 hours prior to the protest. [Read more…]

Christmas is for Everyone, Except for Obama

Right Wing attacks President Obama for relatively modest holiday vacation.

Presidential holiday vacations are usually both uninteresting and long. Bush and Regan both routinely took 20 or more days of vacation during the holiday season, which is more than most people get, but less than others. For example, I get 30 days this year (Woohooo me). But it seems that the right and FOX can’t help themselves from turning anything, even the most mundane, into a barbed spear to hurl at Obama. But why Obama’s Christmas vacation? Because the President had the audacity, the sheer nerve, to take 17 days off in Hawaii; and the right is crying at the top of their lungs. [Read more…]

The War on CHRISTmas: The Battle of Chicago

Fox reporter issues apology for claiming Santa is not real.

As the bullshit “War on Christmas” continues, the religious right has let it be known that they are not fucking around. Not only will they continue to fight against any heathen bastard who dares to mock the creator of the universe during this season of peace, but they will devour their own for the slightest infraction against the collective.

WoW’s 99% Feels the Hurt Too

A study of the economy of the world’s most popular MMO, World of Warcraft, reveals income inequality in the virtual world.

I used to play wow. A lot. When college ended and it was time to move on to “real life”, I managed to sell my virtual character for real money, to the tune of $2,500. Which I promptly blew on buying even more electronic entertainment gadgets, turned out that “real life” still had some room for a bit of Xbox live.

Any serious WoW player will tell you that there is money in that game, viruses have been distributed over the web to steal accounts, there are dozens of MMO specific auction websites, and there are the Asian gold farmers. All these outside influences destabilize the virtual economy of the game, so much so that a recent study concluded that if Azeroth was a real country it would have the second worst economy on Earth in respect to income inequality. The 99% of elves, orks, gnomes, and so on are somehow getting more screwed than the 99% of real people, but at least Azeroth has better health care. [Read more…]

Islamaphobia and Islamists

The devil is in the details. One last post before getting out of dodge.

I have written several articles about Islamaphobia in American, the Arab Spring, and Islam inside the Middle East. Sometimes earing the ire of the Far-Right for my views. But today I took some time to watch fellow FtB blogger Maryam Namazie give a speech in Copenhagen (The video can be found on her post entitled “Simplicity is killing us”).

She spoke about how some in the left have been hesitant to criticize Islam due to a perception that any such criticism is seen as racist, to which I have asserted that the far right’s claims of “Creeping Sharia” in America are racist. This deserves some explanation from myself. [Read more…]
