As I was told once by a range officer “Don’t let your enthusiasm get your arse shot off.” A particularly sore point as a “friend” had, on the previous day managed to give one of my buttocks a cordite and powder tatoo from a .303 blank round at a range of about six feet.

Instead of AWOL, I prefer the Navy’s term for violations of UCMJ Article 86: Unauthorized Absence or UA.
