Oakland Cop Reprimanded by Judge

Officer John Hargraves suspended for hiding his nameplate for OWS protestors.

U.S. District Judge Thelton Henderson has handed down a scathing opinion to Officer Hargraves and his Lt, Clifford Wong, for Hargraves act of taping over his nameplate during interactions with Occupy Oakland on November 2nd of last year.

At the time, Lt. Wong noticed the obscured nameplate and removed the tape but failed to report Officer Hargraves for the violation of police policy. The department then suspended Hargraves for 30 days but allowed him to remain on duty pending an appeal. That appeal did not go well. [Read more…]

Eye of the Lawsuit

Newt Gingrich has be sued for violating copyright in pursuit of his integral montage.

Yesterday Rude Music Inc, owned by Survivor’s songwriter Frank Sullivan, sued the Republican Presidential hopeful for violation of copyright. Sullivan alleges that Mr. Gingrich has been prefacing many of his appearances by blasting the song “Eye of the Tiger” before going on stage without first licensing the song since 2009.

Other politicians have similarly earned the ire of musicians with differing political views but, given the double digit lead that Mr. Romney has gained in polling it may be time for Mr. Gingrich to pick a different song anyway.

SSSD and Fox

Long day at work standing around, talking on a radio, and filling out official looking forms. Thus, I didn’t get a chance to do much reading.

However, I did run across a FOX News article trying to stir up some controversy about Rock Beyond Belief. The theme of those opposed to the event is that the evil atheist speakers and performers will be unable to tailor their speeches and performances to a family friendly environment. Which is silly, you always play to your audience and both the performers and organizers of the event are aware of the policies governing events on a military base.

So even though the rock bands will not come on stage covered in the blood of newborn infants and screaming a string of obscenities that would make a Drill Sergeant flinch, I will still be attending and SO SHOULD YOU.

Sign This Thing Right Meow!

Paradise Valley High School wants signatures? Then FINE we will give them signatures!

Update, the preamble of the petition has been updated:

“I’d like to thank everyone for their support. I never imagined that the petition would gain so much attention. However, this whole situation has been a large misunderstanding between myself and the administration.

I never meant to shed Paradise Valley in a negative light. PV is an accepting community of diverse students and staff. I have met with my principal and this situation has been resolved.

The misunderstanding was completely on my end of things. Again, thank you all for your activism and support.”

So the requirement seems to be a case of miscommunication but, in the end the kids are getting their club, huzzah. [Read more…]

The Google Age Game

How old do you act online?

While doing my daily troll of Gawker, I came upon an article about how Google calculates ones age. And you can figure out how old and what gender Google thinks you are by following this link.

Apparently due to my interest in Business, Aerospace, Defense, Space Technology, Government, Government – Legislative Branch, Legal news, Politics and elections, people and society, and casual apparel and T-shirts; Google thinks I am a 55 to 64 year old man. I am 27… Though Google thinks my iPhone is owned by a 45-54 year old man, which I can only attribute to a lot of time spent on the /b/.

I can only assume Google thinks PZ is a 176 year old demonic lord.

What about you, dear readers?

Alaska Airlines Ends Prayer Card Service

In response to customer reactions, airline axes mixing prayer and air travel.

Two days ago Alaska Airlines broke with thirty years of tradition by ending the practice of distributing “Prayer Cards” with meals out respect to company’s diverse group of consumers and their many faith traditions or lack thereof.

What I find interesting is that up until 2006, the airline conducted meal service to the entire plane and during that time most responses to the prayer cards were positive. However, after 2006 meals only were served in First Class and the reviews became more and more negative until the airline preemptively removed the cards. Which says something about demographics, but I am too biased to draw any conclusions.

Anyhow, huzzah for small victories.

Birther PAC

Unlimited money to promote unlimited stupidity.

The Minuteman organization, a loose collection of civilians who both advocate for greater border security and watch the boarder themselves, has formed a Political Action Committee. In addition to promoting immigration reform and socially conservative policies, the PAC has added another large plank to their organization; they are birthers. [Read more…]

Dead Kittens

The side effects of American Politics.

I believe most Americans are unsettled by how vehement our political discussion frequently gets. Occasionally the seething pot of hatred +1 boils over and something sad happens. This is one of those times. Sometimes the event makes us all step back, if only for a second, and pontificate on all the politically biased bile we all too often spew at each other. This will probably not be one of those times. [Read more…]

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Press Pool

Fame, fortune, and a pseudonym.

There is a weird tale unfolding between writers for both The Daily Caller and Mediaite, a tale of two egos, it appears and Fishbowl DC has been covering the blow by blow. The incident’s genesis was when Mediaite’s White House correspondent, Tommy Christopher, calling the Daily Caller’s correspondent, John Pool,  a “homophobic piece of shit.” While the comment against Mr. Pool has merit judging from Pool’s past remarks, John is not taking the comment lightly.

Both reporters are now doing their best to destroy each other and perhaps tarnishing their own reputations in the process. Both accuse each other of habitually brown nosing their way up the journalistic ladder in hopes of one day joining the Punditcracy. Interviews have since been published and the beltway crowd is ablaze at the reality TV quality entertainment unfolding right before their eyes.

Now John Pool has tossed down a gauntlet of sorts. [Read more…]

John Edward, Relationship Genius

I actually still can’t believe this happened.

Today was a long one, eleven and a half hours. Consequently I didn’t get to read or write much but this, sadly, caught my eye.

Apparently the reason Kim Kardashian got a divorce was because her father told her to. Even better, her father is dead. Even better, the information was relayed to Kim via John Fracking Edward, yes THAT John Edward, the very paragon of morality. [Read more…]
