I have often complained that we focus too much on honor in war – not because there is none, but because there is so much honor to be had outside of war and the disproportionate focus on honor in war has at least in the past, and in many places in the world probably still does, encourage war and violence as opportunities to achieve honor that one could not achieve outside of violent contexts.
But this? This just cuts right through all that. The only way you can get the honor, under this sign, is by defending the defenseless. And if that’s all any of us did, no one would ever fire a shot.
I’ve lost 2 or 3 tears becuase of this. I’m not outright crying, but the effect on me of this was just super-intense.
Thank you, as always, for sharing so much.
