The Decline of Religion in America According to the Blaze

An article on The Blaze warns of the decline of religion in America. Being a master at propaganda as a peons of usually are at Mr. Beck’s site, the author refers to religiosity as ‘religious health’, implying that it is unhealthy to be non religious, a meme that I love. Why the article does get the general point of the study (conducted by the right) nailed down, it glosses over a few of the more interesting concepts. The two that stuck me as important were:

Aging memberships – The internet generation is much more godless, despite increasing efforts of churches to take advantage of technology.

and

Continuing High Levels of Conflict – Problems in the church and declining membership/revenues

While it is always informative to know how the right thinks about itself for education’s sake, the absolute BEST part about any blaze article are the comments, I have included some of my favorites.

Catholics don’t read the bible apparently

Every modern social concern is addressed in the Holy Bible. Catholics and Socialist attempts to avoid righteous discussions.

the real christians will shine brighter and brighter until the full day….

Wat? A Blaze reader’s prospective on atheism

I’ve noticed there are two kinds of Atheists. Atheist #1 Doesn’t believe in any kind of organized religion or deity(s), but yet respects those that do and so never argues about it.

Atheist #2, on the other hand, trashes all religions, (especially Christians) does everything in their power to mask religious phrases/items through either the courts, desecration, intimidation, or outright vandalism, and will try to “convert” others away from faith. (i.e. billboards, advertisements, fliers etc.)

Seems to me that #2 hides behind the term “atheism” in order to mask their own religion.

The Blaze, how I love thee.

Anons Fail at Protesting, NYPD Banhammers Like its 1845

Let it never be said that 4chaners aren’t lazy. Because we are, sunlight hurts the majority of us and RL sucks because of the lack of a reset button.

What sounded like a good idea at the time, occupying Wall Street in protest to their ‘accidently the economy’ turned out to be a bit of a fizzle.  The grandiose dream of 20,000 masked channers only resulted in a paltry 2,000 people showing up at the protest’s peak, not merely enough to reach their unrealistic goal of actually changing anything, other than traffic patterns.

A tad fatalistic to be sure but, let’s face it Wall Street exists in the sphere of the new American Aristocracy and only money talks to those guys. Nice idea, good effort, but pointless…if not for the NYPD.

The fuzz decided to don their well-worn asshat…hats and arrested several Anons for wearing masks in a gathering of more than two people.

And as for the police response to the protests, well, that too has proved to be creative and unpredictable. Seven individuals had been arrested as of Monday, according to Bloomberg.

But up to five people have been issued a citation for violating an 1845 “antimask law” that prohibits masked gatherings of two or more people, except during “a masquerade party or like entertainment,” The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing police.

Fox news might have reported the 4chan is an “internet hate machine” that posts porn and those are completely true statements to be sure but, in my experiences marching with in the anti-scientology protests in Austin, Tx, the massive majority of IRL Anons were nerdy, polite, and respectful college / high school students like myself.

Walking into a Bank of America building wearing a mask was more than a bit retarded. Yet scrawling a Gandhi quote with chalk on a sidewalk was surely not an act that I would arrest anyone over. So thanks NYPD for breaking up a non violent protest and keeping the super rich safe and secure.

The Jungle, yet another book Michele Bachmann has apparently not read

Has your food recently been missing that extra kick? That lil’ bit of old country taste that only occasionally made your brother contract that infection that then killed him. Well, Michele Bachmann wants to bring back that missing ingredient, being rat shit and other contaminates, by eliminating food regulations…

It’s the same bullshit republican justification of the private sector implementing self-regulation, which rarely happens because as Bachmann accurately pointed out, they reduces profits. That being the point of regulation, to force bottom line oriented companies from always acting like irresponsible children. I know most of this rabble rousing by the right is just that, talk, and probably would not be implemented if the right takes the White House in 2012. But it still makes my black heart all the blacker every time I read this stuff. Thankfully we don’t have FOX “news” running 24/7 at this TOC (Like we did in our last) or else the Army would be out another TV.

Santorum. Noun. Whines About Being Linked to Rick Santorum. Idiot.

After publically stating that Google was not to blame for Rick Santorum’s santorum problem, the struggling Republican candidate has backtracked and is now claiming that the tech company is discriminating against him, because he is conservative.

Aside from Santorum’s mischaracterization of how Google actually works, one quote pointed out by Think Progress made me giggle like a tween.

“If you’re a responsible business, you don’t let things like that happen in your business that have an impact on the country.”

You heard it everybody, Rick Santorum = the country.

I guess all that money dropped by team Santorum into “reputation defender” spamsites didn’t work well enough to counter all his bigotry. A Napkin is always a Napkin because it is a Napkin. And Santorum will always be Santorum.

Media Matters on SirusXM

I love XM radio. Mostly because of P.O.T.U.S radio which, IMHO, is the BEST mainstream(ish) political talk on the air. Stand UP! with Pete, the blog roll, and well frankly all the programming on P.O.T.U.S. is  high quality and majority spin free (the hosts are generally left leaning but try to keep it straight). Plus it features mother fracking Llewellyn King, who is awesome.

Sirius Left is a channel that why I love the concept behind it, I was never able to get into. To me, the bombastic right has so distorted my conceptions of biased political talk radio that Sirius Left is left looking like a bunch of wimps compared to the T-1000 hate machines on the right.

So I was presently surprised when I heard about Media Matters doing a trial run on Sirus XM Left.

The show will start 24 September on channel 127 and will air live on Saturdays from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm ET and replay Sundays from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm ET. I can hardly wait for all the FOX bashing to come, my earballs are overjoyed.

The Oak Initiative, Drop it Like it’s Hot

Self described moderate evangelical leader Samuel Rodriguez has resigned from the Islamaphobic hate group, The Oak Initiative after freelance writer Greg Metzger interviewed Rodriguez for an article about Rodriguez’s ties the organization in response to a recent article over at Talk2Action that broke the story.

Rodriguez tried to worm his way out of responsibility by claiming he had little interaction with the Oak Initiative despite being its VP and having several videos of the evangelical talking dominion theology posted by the group in question. When Mr. Metzger confronted Rodriguez about the group, the preacher promised to quit the organization, voice his concerns over the vile hate they continue to spew, and express his regret for ever being associated with these hate-mongers.

Step 1 complete…now we wait for 2 and 3, or will Mr. Rodriguez simply hold fast and hope the news cycle forgets him so as to not burn bridges with a sizable portion of the American Evangelical population?

On a side note, like so many weasel politicians/lobbyists/activists, Rick Joyner, an Oak member claimed that Rodriguez left because of “increased responsibilities”. Rachel over at Talk2Action received your standard issue evasive dismissal letter.

Dear Rachel Tabachnick,

Thanks for your inquiry. Sam Rodriguez did recently resign from the board of The Oak Initiative citing as the reason being that his increased responsibilities with editing a new Spanish version of Charisma Magazine would prohibit him having time to give a meaningful contribution to The Oak. We have a deep appreciation for Sam Rodriguez and will miss his contribution to The Oak, but congratulate him for this new endeavor.

This change should be reflected on our website soon. Thanks again for the inquiry.

Rick Joyner

If Rodriguez is really as offended by the Oak Initiative’s positions as he indicated to Mr. Metzger, why wait to denounce these ignorant hate filled ass clowns? I eagerly await that press release.

Premo Glitch Hop

It has been 3,112 days since the Invasion of Iraq.

Our router burned to the ground today, so I was saved from having to read my rightwing insanity quota for the day.

/b/ackup

Another nerd joins the fray at FTB, so maybe someone else will finally get all my 4chan jokes! Give Blag Hag a read, it was interesting enough for me to miss a a chunk of my 6 hours of my allotted amount of sleep and that’s saying something because sleep is literally the most enjoyable facet of my life here.

In all seriousness, go read it.

Back in Business

I am now settled at yet another Contingency Operating Station with blazing fast internet and more importantly, a cooler Army webmaster. When I was in Mosul, the local internet master blocked a lot of atheist related sites…including FTB… but now in Kirkuk everything seems accessible! Whoever runs the intertubes here deserves a near-beer.

Updates will now resume.

You Are Now Authorized to be Gay

We stopped in the middle of a combat operation in Iraq, announced that it was now A-OK to be Gay and then went back to work. So much for gays ruining our combat power…but it did improve our fashion sense.

My thoughts go out to all the service members who had to hide their true selves in service to their nation. Finally the military is respecting you as much as you have always respected it.
