“Liberals Love Dictatorships”

Help! Help! I’m Being Repressed

Tea Part Nation’s President Judson Phillips is again harping on the inherent evils of liberalism and claimed (indirectly, of course) that most if not all of my FTB bloggers want a great dictatorship. Ok, PZ might, but only if our great supreme godless overload of + 9000 hate points was some sort of Lovecraftian Squid Creature. Here is a bit of what Judson said:

“The desperation to impose socialism on America against the will of the American people is now being seen from members of the Party of Treason. They speak openly of the problems of liberty.”

Liberals love dictatorships. In a dictatorship, they can just push their crackpot ideas and not have to worry about the little people complaining about a few minor details like, the ideas don’t work. The ideas suck. – Judson Phillips, letter to Tea Party Nation members.

The letter goes on to make some sane points about their main imperative of removing democrats from power in 2012 and tosses in some quotes from our founding fathers for good measure before going right back into crazy town with a suggestion that the current administration might react in a way other than the peaceful transition of power that we are accustomed to. It’s worth the read but requires registration, so I would recommend a sock email account unless you want to get their daily spam.

Getting back to the title of my post, the claim that liberals love dictatorships, which I disagree with as much with as I do with the idea that every religious person wanting to establish a theocracy. Some do, but I only think that specific religious people carry that view when I observe their particular sect of belief giving sermons, publishing books, and running websites promoting that specific view (read: NAR). I do not then link that crazy idea to people outside that sect. Conversely, there has to be some liberals out there who want a dictatorship but in no way are their views representative of the whole.

Most of us evil liberals just want to swing the pendulum of American politics a bit further to the left and are American enough to know that a dictatorship would be both against our individual interests as well as the interests of the greater public, not to mention ethically challenging. For frak’s sake, Obama turned out to be a moderate, yet the meme of encroaching socialism is more rampant than ever.

Plus the idea of a sudden liberal dictatorship revolution bonanza CAN’T happen in America today, in the Military republicans (the plurality) out number democrats almost two to one and there are far more independents than democrats, liberals like me are the minority. If you take the politics of the senior Military leadership in to consideration, the liberal minority further decreases. Even if the ultra-right’s myth of liberals all wanting a completely socialistic government was true, enacting that would be impossible. For all my tactical bad ass-ary, myself and my theoretical cohorts would be stomped into the ground in seconds as any civil war would divide the military as sure as it would the larger citizenry. But of course, it’s not true, it’s just another wild extension of thought far past the bounds of reason to get yet more money donated in order to elect yet another round of the same dismal political leadership that all Americas get, regardless of party.

And thanks for the “Party of Treason” moniker, just call us extremist Islamic-tied terrorists already…o yea, they already did.

As much as I dislike no-true-scotsman arguments, a liberal cannot want a dictatorship. If you are not in favour of personal liberties (which don’t go together with a totalitarian system), you’re not a liberal.

The accusation would be still be rather absurd, but atleast consistent if directed against socialists.

I suspect he’s simply projecting his own thoughts. Happens so often, they accuse the other side of the very thing they do themselves.

Er, most liberals are wanting better representation of the people…which is pretty much the opposite of a dictatorship.

It isn’t that people like Judson Phillips are on some pretty potent psychedelic drugs that bothers me…it’s that they don’t share the drugs with the rest of us…

“Liberals love dictatorships.” Really? Were we the ones who established an absolutist theocracy in Saudi Arabia and kept them in power for almost a century? Were we the ones who helped overthrow democracies in Iran and Iraq, creating a totalitarian monarchy in one and a one-party state in the other?

The liberal models are Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Canada… social democracies with very high standards of living. Only conservatives support dictatorships like the House of Saud, the Shahs of the Pahlavi Dynasty and the Ba’athis Party, not to mention Batista in Cuba (who they put in power), Noriega in Panama (who they put in power) and other fascist dictatorships around the world.

Another example is Libya. Many conservatives are or were against us intervening against their homicidal dictator. According to their narrative, when Reagan bombed Libya, he was fighting terrorists and when Obama bombed Libya, he was helping terrorists.

@2 Sumdum – The word you want is “blackwhite”

… this word has two mutually contradictory meanings. Applied to an opponent, it means the habit of impudently claiming that black is white, in contradiction of the plain facts. Applied to a Party member, it means a loyal willingness to say that black is white when Party discipline demands this. But it means also the ability to believe that black is white, and more, to know that black is white, and to forget that one has ever believed the contrary. This demands a continuous alteration of the past, made possible by the system of thought which really embraces all the rest, and which is known in Newspeak as doublethink.

If the debate has reached this low level, just call them Party of Enslavement, or Party of the Racist Poopy-heads and ask them to take their dirty hands out of the middle class pockets, and to stop being tea-bagged by the mega-rich.
