Reuters reports (via trust.org):

BAGHDAD – Gunmen using silenced weapons tried to kill Ibrahim Zaidan, the media department manager at the Electricity Ministry, and another ministry employee in eastern Baghdad, a statement from the ministry said. Neither was hurt.

MOSUL – Gunmen shot dead an off-duty soldier near his house in northern Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, a local police source said.

MOSUL – Police found the bodies of two prisoners who escaped from a temporary jail in the city of Mosul, leaving eight of the original 35 escapees still missing, said Abdul-Raheem al-Shimeri, the head of the security committee in the Nineveh provincial council.

MOSUL – Gunmen stormed a house in western Mosul, killing an off-duty border guard and wounding his brother, a local police source said.
