Common Metal Bitten by Radioactive Spider, Becomes Super Aluminum

A team of scientists have successfully produced a new form of Aluminum that exists only under immense pressure such as the conditions found at Earth’s core on the nanoscale. Published in Nature Communications, the team pulsed laser light into a sapphire in order to mimic the internal events of the earth and have the sample melt properly. The material may yeild new insights into the electromagnetic forces at play in the heart of our planet, Science Daily reports.

When asked about the ramification of his team’s discovery, Professor Juodkazis said.

“Using this focused laser technique, we may now be able create a range of superdense metals that have extraordinary properties,” he said. “The creation of superdense silver or gold, for example, could lead to many new possibilities for bio-sensing and plasmonics.”

I’m sure Glen Beck and Rush are already working on their commercials for SUPERGOLD.

“When the collapsed economy collapses again and your gold that you purchased with your worthless cash, itself becomes worthless, BUY SUPERGOLD!”

Sam Harris and the Burning Ring of Fire

Sam Harris is having a time over on his blog after suggesting taxing the ultra-rich of America. After the exodus from his subscriber list, he has fired back with another post featuring some of the commentary he received.

Sorry Sam. I used to praise and promote your works. You’ve lost me. Your promotion of theft by initiating force on others is unforgivable. You’re just a thug now, attempting cheap personal gratification by broadcasting signals which cost you nothing, just like Warren Buffett.

Theft by initiating force…, yet when they call it War and the rich speak a different language, would that commentator be still opposed? Somehow, when you ask for the money with democratic law its tyranny and when you take someone else’s shit with a gun, its called liberation. Sometimes the best part of deployment is being away from all the stupid that comes with America.

Foxhole Atheists get Intra Military Coverage

Most Americans will gladly say “we support our troops,” free drinks in airport bars are common, as is the occasional random “thank you for your service.” The American military is unique compared to other, perhaps more laudable, government jobs such as teaching, being that the massive majority respects the military institutions. American Soldiers are considered to be representatives of American society where the common core moral values of the nation are put to the test under the most adverse and cruel conditions imaginable. And you bet your ass we are, we are the mirror that America looks in, a constant reflection of change.

Social groups have learned from the African-American military story, post WWII, that even the most strident bigot may change his tune when his life is on the line. The ties of a common enemy, a common language, and a common society; not to mention just having another trigger puller in a pinch are strong motivators for cooperation.  Soldiers learn to be friends, regardless of creed, orientation, or color and once those Soldiers ETS from the military; they take those life lessons back home. It was hard for my grandfather who served in the Pacific to return to the small Texas town where he witnessed lynchings as a kid. He was disgusted when faced with the old racism of Hicksville, USA and soon moved to the city.

Today, the struggle for acceptance is fought by atheists and homosexuals who, by striving for lasting recognition in the military, sow the seeds of a concrete place in the accepted American zeitgeist. So, as I got mortared during breakfast, I was pleasantly surprised to see not one but, two articles on Atheism in my Stars and Stripes. The 4 page spread was enough to send my favorite Mormon FUN-damentalist into a 5 minute rant about how the godless are evil and that how we are the servants of President Obama and his socialist plans. Which was stupid on so many levels, I was unable to respond.

Go Team Godless.

Glen Beck’s “Planet Course-Altering Event” Draws less than 5,000

After Glen Beck endeared himself to the Israeli public by ranting about popular social demonstrations on housing issues and then promptly lied about ranting about popular social demonstrations on housing issues, after hinting about the possible culmination of biblical prophecy, he only drew a crowd of about 4,700 (source: His spokesman)..which he promptly inflated to 10,000.

Fox news only mentioned the event only once, and that was from a pundit. Has Mr. Beck finally fallen from grace? This event was a tie in to the launch of GBTV, if this christening was any indication, his ship might have already sailed.

Summer is Coming

A recent computer model based study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences predicts the impact of biomass CO2 releases from thawing permafrost may be an even larger problem than previously expected, transitioning from a carbon reducing ecosystem to a carbon producing system by the end of the century.

Of course, since this is just a model based study the results will have to be confirmed in the field before the situation merits screaming “The End is Nigh.”

The study disagrees with previous permafrost models that predicted future vegetation in the former tundra would soak up enough carbon to induce a net carbon loss of the permafrost system but that may not be the case as several hundred years’ worth of decay finally gets some fresh air.

The Adventures of DOMA

Since the only argument left against marriage equality boils down to “God hates it”, Representative Boehner’s lawyer, Paul Clement, defending the Defense of Marriage Act has resorted to deliberately skewing the research of Professor Lisa Diamond to support the anti-equal rights case, Gay.Americablogs reports.

“They have completely misrepresented my research.” Said Diamond when she was interviewed about the case.

Opposing lawyers have since filed a brief with the judge on the dishonest presentation of scientific work.

“Professor Lisa Diamond, the author of two of the academic articles Plaintiff seeks to strike, has submitted an affidavit testifying that BLAG has in fact distorted her research and that she never would have agreed to testify to the propositions BLAG has advanced in its papers.”

Rock Bottom and still digging. The only hope for the right on this case was a motion to have conservatives congressmen participate in the proceedings which was of couse denied sometime last Thursday and now the pseudo-science is being weeded out. Unsubstantiated rhetoric may get a law created, but truth will tear a bad law down.
