Don’t know if I ever told you this: my parents didn’t actually tell my dad’s white, southern baptist family that they were married (or, I gather, that they were even a couple) until two months after the wedding when my dad brought my mom from Chicago to visit. They were so afraid of his family’s reaction to her being Filippino (or as my grandfather casually referred to all Asians no matter where they were actually from, “Chinamen”), that they waited for some kind of weird, “too late, it’s done!” period of time to pass, I guess. I never experienced anything but love from my grandparents and their generation of the family, but one reason I think my parents didn’t have me for nearly a decade is that the relationship with my dad’s family was difficult for some time, and my mom is very much about family always getting along.

I am thankful that my family supports me and doesn’t get angry or racist because i am dating a black man. We have a child together, a beautiful baby girl that is 8 weeks old. Every now and again we do get a snub or two from some white people and to me it doesn’t bother me i just ignore it. I know it bothers him and i’ve told him to just forget them and move on.
I’m sorry your dad can’t support your choice of partner, if he doesn’t want to be a part of your life then he’s going to be the one missing out, not you. Good luck to you and Emmett, i hope everything works out for you both.

My buddy Marcus dated a black girl and while walking with her one night on a date he was jumped by a group of black guys and they damn near killed him, all because he was with her, but hey… its only racist when whites do it right?

Hi Ashley: Have you ever seen “Look Who’s Coming to Dinner?” Sidney Portier plays the handsome and very accomplished black boyfriend of an upper-middle class white girl. It’s a wonderful movie, but movies are not real life. As a self-described polemicist, I wonder if your choice of a boyfriend was a refutation of the conservative, southern mores held by your father?

Thats exactly what it is.. She is just rebelling, doing what a rebellious child does best, hop over to the political party that her father does not like, and does everything that her father would not approve.
Of course the propaganda in schools and TV these days helped it along. As with most white girls. After they have their fun, realize that dating a black leaves them with children and without a father for them because they take off 80% of the time according to most statistics of black families. She will regret it, wish she didnt go against her parents, who all along was trying to impart their wisdom on her.
Irony..Blacks and other non Whites try to keep their kids dating their own kind. When is the last time you saw lions and tigers producing offspring in nature? They dont, as with most all creatures on earth. Though it is only liberals who claim racism when people dont want to mix. That in itself is racism.

You do realize that you’re talking about a PhD student, not a teenager, right? Is there any point at which racism and misogyny don’t overlap?
No, racism is claiming that black people and white people are different species. In reality, the difference, where it actually exists, is more like differences in fur color for the same species of animal; put a grey cat in heat in the same environment as a tabby with multicolored fur, and you’d better damn well believe they’re going to produce some offspring.
But then, you’re both a racist and a misogynist; the ability to follow a basic analogy is probably far beyond your self-imposed intellectual limitations.

Oh, look, a racist troll. Yes, troll, it is racism when non-white people do it. Pretty sure no one here was arguing that only white people are racist. I am also pretty sure that “they do it too” ceased to be a valid argument around the age of five. Additionally, I think the world would appreciate it if you could learn some basic genetics so that you can understand the difference between speciation and pigmentation. Race is not a genetic construct, so please stop blaming your bigotry on nature. Actually, the world might appreciate it more if you could learn empathy, but there are indications that you have a natural deficiency in that area.
