Given Texas’ reputation for politicization of education, I really must acknowledge an historic moment -especially given the absurdities of the recently released Republican Party Platform for this state. Earlier this week, the Texas State Board of Education voted -unanimously- to reject creationist submissions, and teach evolution as a central and vital aspect of biology. Having once testified before this board myself in darker times, this move strikes me as a very encouraging improvement over our previous situation.
Can it be that my old video is no longer relevant?

Oh my lack of a god! Texas finally gets it right! Of course, it just had to be a year after I graduate high school too.

Thank you for sharing this news! This victory brings us one step closer to a scientifically literate America, and it should be celebrated by us all. Mad props to you for going before the Board and educating them.

What, in the Infinite Hells, happened to change that moronic, quivering mass’ mind about the teaching of fucking science?!
Have I suddenly started living in a world where idiots care about proper education and not ideology pimping?
…Is this an Onion story?

Could be about the money. The state would have had to spend more for the additional creationism materials.

Wow. Maybe enough of the right people got told “Look, if you guys let the fundies win this one no science-based industry is going to locate in Texas ever again” and understood it. Very interesting.

Umm, am I the only one noticing that this was over a year ago, and not “earlier this week”? o.O

I noticed this too when someone else posted the article earlier this week. It’s still a good sign, but recent activity could undo everything.

Well that explains a lot, like why I didn’t know about this last week. Turns out this is the one where I testified myself.
Now I have to wonder why folks started sending me this link in the last couple days.

It popped up in my news feed a few days ago, too, like a new item. When I hear anti-evolution news from state education boards, I like to drop the governor a line thanking him for making sure that graduates from his state will never compete with me for well-paid international knowledge worker jobs.
