A 28 year old engineer was beaten to death by seven men.
Shaikh Mohasin Sadiq from Solapur exercised free speech. He posted a derogatory picture of Shivaji (A famous King) and of the late Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray. [Read more...]
It”s no secret that the tragic murders by Elliot Rodger are effectively the news of the week.
But there is one group of people who had to intervene.
It is no secret right wing Americans and the NRA defend guns to the hilt as a method of rejecting tyranny by killing beer cans and paper silhouettes. And that when guns are used to kill the usual parade of the NRA begins. This time powered by Joe the Plumber. The man who proved that complete pig ignorance was the driving force of the Tea Party and that Joe the Plumber seriously supported laws and plans that were harmful to himself. [Read more...]
Elliot Rodgers was a bloody tragedy.
6 people died while others were injured.
Lets get this straight. We all want to blame one thing and one thing alone for Elliot Rodgers. I don’t see it as that easy. It is clear that Elliot Rodgers was a deeply disturbed man and had a mental health problem. It is also clear that guns and American Culture in humanising and dissecting the lives of those who “went Postal” had a role. It is also clear that the misogyny promoted by the PUA/MRA communities and male privilege played a role.
But the problem is everyone wants their personal “cause” to be the issue. There are people who insist that he has a mental health issue. There are some who insist it is the MRA stuff. There are some blaming guns.
The privilege and mental health created the man, the MRA/PUA gave him his targets. The guns enabled his deadly rampage. All have a role.
Everyone’s already said their piece about Elliot Rodger. What’s to say?
On Friday, Elliot Rodger took his revenge on society. He went on a rampage that resulted in him killing his flatmates and shooting three innocent by standers. This happened a month after police were first alerted to Elliot Rodger’s YouTube videos and paid him a visit. His videos were angry and promised retribution and to show the world. Rodger took out revenge as he had promised on his “Day of Retribution.”. A 20 minute long spree that left a dozen people wounded and 7 dead.
I didn’t have Internet over the past few days, so for me I didn’t write the hot headed responses. I had the opportunity to think about what I wanted to say on the topic. It also gave me the chance to speed read his manifesto called “My Twisted World”. [Read more...]
The type of masculinity that young boys are taught is not compatible with mental health and with ethical behavior. Full stop. We’re fortunate that so relatively few will take it to the lengths that Rodger did, but I don’t know a single man who doesn’t suffer as a direct consequence of it. I know few who have never madeothers suffer as a direct consequence of it. We need to inoculate boys against this harmful and maladaptive thinking rather than teach it to them.
One of the first people to be banned from A Million Gods was a MRA/PUA type guy who ran a letter that was bigotted. And I shut him down and banned him. He had it coming.
One of the commentators noted something interesting. See we talk about this idealised standard of what a man is and we forget that most of us aren’t that. We do what we can with what we have.
He noted that the joke of being called a Beta Male by this man was amusing since I was going into a career generally considered an “Alpha Career”. Mainly because TV Doctors are portrayed as muscular men with amazing skin. Not people who get varicose veins. It is an ideal. Miri’s Post on Elliot Rodger is spot on.
Western Education is Forbidden.
The Taliban thrive because it is easy to endarken the mind than to enlighten it. It takes years to create the sort of mind that would think the Taliban are souce of good. But that is a self perpetrating cycle. It is harder to make a teacher or a doctor.
It takes 20 to 30 years to train one. It takes seconds to pull a trigger. [Read more...]
The Hague-based OPCW said President Bashar al-Assad’s government had agreed to accept the mission and had promised to provide security in areas under its control.
The use in war of “asphyxiating, poisonous or other gases” – both of which can be produced by chlorine and ammonia – is banned by the Geneva Protocol, of which Syria is a signatory.
There is rising evidence that Syria has been using Chemical Warfare with many cases of Chlorine and Ammonia inhalation being reported.
The attacks are alleged to have happened around April the 11th and soil testing seems consistent with a Chemical Weapon. In addition? Since the weapon was dropped from helicopter, the belief is that pro-Assad forces were involved.
“I cannot help thinking that if the Central African Republic were not a poor country hidden away in the heart of Africa, the terrible events that have taken place and continue to take place would have stimulated a far stronger and more dynamic reaction by the outside world. How many more children have to be decapitated, how many more women and girls will be raped, how many more acts of cannibalism must there be, before we really sit up and pay attention?”
Navi Pillay’s the UN Chief of human rights and she had this to say about the lack of International attention to the ongoing crisis in the Central African Republic. [Read more...]

“Malaysia Plane Crash: what do you all think? If the plane did not crash is it possible for it to have landed in either North Korea or Iran?? How many of you think it crashed how many of you think it landed somewhere.” – Uri Geller
