Abortion Myths Debunked

Christian Post’s pro-life brigade were out in force over the week.

The problem with such reporting is that it’s an outright lie. And the best lies told are the ones where the teller believes in the same lie.

So me saying “beware the dinner witch! She will eat you if you don’t eat your broccoli” is an effective lie. A kid may believe in it but slowly question it. It’s why the Dinner Witch, Santa and the Tooth Fairy “die” as beliefs at a certain age. We may joke about them and enforce the belief when younger but later on we become less supportive. The belief dies because we don’t believe in it.

To me the belief in a god doesn’t die out because the lie is believed. Everyone believes the story of a god so belief in said god is enforced and enhanced.

It’s the same with abortion. How many pro-lifers genuinely believe the nonsense that they sprout? [Read more...]

Not the Ducks! – The Feminist Breeder Proves My Natural Birth Point

Yesterday I wrote about Natural Birth, it’s a contentious issue with regards to body autonomy. A lot of women defend the practice as “It’s not dangerous” as the stats in home birth are skewed by Home Birth advocates and in the name of patient choice, an inferior system of care is touted and pushed as superior.

I wrote about the complete unreliability of the Midwives who promote this and the testimony of women who support it (It is mainly women since the entire practice wreaths itself in the trappings and language of feminism). [Read more...]

Not the Ducks – A Perfectly Natural Home Birth

There are problems with “liberals” we have our own set of issues with skepticism. So while I am more likely to argue about Evolution with a conservative, I am more likely to argue about quackery and anti-GMO stuff with liberals.

And none are as emblematic of this issue as the Huffington Post who have a piece up by Ruth Fowler Iorio entitled New Mom’s Uncensored Photos Reveal The Beautiful, Messy Reality Of Home Birth.

It’s got photos of her birth and her tweets. So you have been warned. [Read more...]

Not the Ducks – How To Make A Homosexual

Long time anti-vax quack Erwin Alber’s got the answer to the age old question.

In what wardrobe have all these homosexuals being hiding in. Was there really some sort of “Gay Narnia”, a natural habitat for homosexuals so deep within the closet that they never were noticed? Or did something in our modern day lives create them? Or indeed should we subscribe to the “crazy” theory that homosexuality is part and parcel of normal existence and that we should ignore any such attempts to make a big fuss about them and leave them to get on with their peaceful lives as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone.

But my crazy theory that the GLBT are simply normal human beings who like something I don’t consider attractive. I see it as no more different than people who are enthralled by dub-step or indeed how others probably see my love for Marmite and Irn-Bru.

But for many people the existence of homosexuals is a “problem”. The simple existence of one drives some people to apoplectic rage or to turn from nice and well mannered people (or people who appeared to be nice and well mannered) to bigots.

But fear not. Erwin Alber’s on the case! [Read more...]

It’s Not Divine, It’s Just Childbirth and Sometimes it goes wrong

I am an oddity in the whole “Natural/Medical” birth argument.

See, I am pro-medical birth. Staunchly so. I think the absolute BEST possible outcome of childbirth is at the hands of trained medical practitioners with the proper support structure and proximity to said support structure if things go wrong or expert help is needed.

But I train home birth midwives. These conduct deliveries for a large number of rural women who never could get to a hospital in time. At least this way they have technology and sterile equipment.

But the natural birthers and the pro-choice tell me repeatedly that the act of birth is nearly divine and designed to be perfect. That us doctors would rather slash and stab women than use the natural process.

Vitriol and Vitriolage – Acid Burns and the usage of victims in Atheist Bullying

PTSD is a funny beast.

[important]TW – Atheist Drama, Bullying, PTSD, Acid Victims[/important]

To suffer from it is not a form of weakness. I suffer from it due to the actions of others and trauma inflicted.

How you cope with it is different too. Some revel in it and use it as a source of strength. They fight it and mock it and push themselves to not be held back by it. In many cases normalisation of routine helps PTSD sufferers by getting them up and about and back into routines.

But then there are some people who avoid their triggers. That’s okay too it is a way of coping. I honestly don’t care how you live your life and cope with the beast as long as you live your life. Whether you harness the beast or you cage it it is up to you. It’s your monster, it’s your choice on how to fight it. [Read more...]

My Day

Medication is a powerful thing. The medicines we prescribe and take can change the lives of people.

So when they stop using the medicine the change is phenomenal.

On the train back home, I watched an old lady suddenly turn her head and fall to the floor while convulsing. I responded and identified myself and then began to administer aid. [Read more...]
