Atheism’s MRA Problem

There was a piece of research done on the MRA of r/mensrights on Reddit which showed that they are mainly White, Young and Atheist. Now I know there was a bot entering values so it should be discounted but I do think there are is a fairly large representation of MRA or their ideas that are vocal among atheists.

This one’s by Grimachu and there are problems with this. And the major one is the request for dialogue while simultaneously excusing bad behaviour. This has always been a problem.

See the notion is that we are at fault. That FTB is a monolith. Never mind the fact that I noticed the slymepit coo gleefully over my stance against certain A+ members and indeed feminists over FGM without realising that feminism is itself not a monolith.

And while MRA may have become a slur, it is a slur brought on by the actions of MRA. The MRA have not worked to help men but to fuck over women. While Grimachu starts off here we will see what this entails later in the dialogue. [Read more…]

Bear Grylls – Women in the Woods

Bear Grylls has a new show in the making and it’s got women a bit hacked off.

The Island Of Lost Blokes will see 12 hardy souls join Grylls in trying to survive on a desert island using just their instincts and ingenuity.

12 Hardy Man Souls that is. Channel 4 didn’t quite think women would be up to the challenge or be willing to participate. [Read more…]

Age of Kali – Hotel Relax? Not Really

Earlier today I was told that I should stop representing India as a terrible place for women. The rationale is simple. The more people like me speak out against things that are wrong with India the more it validates racists.

It’s simple? If they didn’t have this to whinge about they would find something else to complain about. My personal favourite is all Indians stink of curry (You say it like it’s a bad thing). [Read more…]

Female Genital Mutilation – An Expansion to the Primer

This is not safe for work, this is not safe for life, this is not safe in general. The following contains images of FGM and vaginas. If you do not wish to see these then please do not read further.

What follows is an image and a discussion on Female Genital Mutilation. It is a complication of the procedure.

When we discuss why a medical condition should be made public particularly of genitals we forget that while people are squeamish, many will say that the usage of squeamish images is insulting to the victims.

How on earth are we to discuss a problem. How are we to discuss a procedure. How are we to discuss the damage caused.

How are we to do ANY of these things without knowing what it looks like? Hence my warning.

An Islamic Defence of FGM

FGM is on the rise in the USA, so I figured I should resurrect an old piece of fundamentalism. The usage of Islam to defend Female Genital Mutilation is a major stumbling block in achieving progress.

This is a major issue with fighting the practice, however let us be clear here. The practice is also found among Christian communities, not just Muslims. It’s just that Islam has a method of defending culture.

And the defence of the practice is frankly reprehensible. What we do know is the Koran NOT prescribing this as a novel thing. We know the practice pre-dates Islam and that the Koran merely maintains the Status Quo in the same way that the Bible promotes the Status Quo of slavery. [Read more…]

Female Genital Mutilation – A Nuanced Look at the First Trial

Dr Dhanuson Dharmasena is one of the first people to be charged in the UK under a landmark case allowing for the prosecution of people involved in aiding and abetting the crime of female genital mutilation.

Female Genital Mutilation is not a good practice. I have long stood against it. However I have had issues with the UK’s laws with regards to Female Genital Mutilation. Doctors were told to fight the practice with little or no training or worse? No idea of how to deal with children at risk.

The point is? We don’t want to take children away from parents. We don’t want young girls to get cut. We also don’t want parents to not bring their kids to see the doctor for fear of being arrested.

But that being said? Prosecutions need to occur. [Read more…]
