Celebrity Pornography

So famous people take naked photos of themselves.

It isn’t just the very amusingly named Anthony Weiner who is a fan of pictures of genitals. Turns out? People who have access to a camera and privacy invariably like taking pictures of themselves or others nude. With the advent of camera phones the naked selfie is much more common.  [Read more…]

Separation of Sex and State – Why A Libertarian Sex Ed does not Work

There is a general notion among the libertarians that society would be much simpler and better if we didn’t have all that pesky government interference.

That the sum total achievement of one man exceeds that of the group, that somehow the group holds us back. To which I say that the Libertarians have a very narrow view of human endeavour and also labour under the assumption that they are among the elite.

Let’s take Penn Jillette for example, I like his magic, not his politics. The libertarianism he espouses would work fine for Penn Jillete since he is wealthy and this brings stability and affords him the privilege of wealth and the power associated with it which would be respected in a society based on minimal government interference. In this he can guarantee he plays the market to his advantage since he can afford the price.

Libertarians assume they will always be on the top of the pile no matter what and that society is holding them down from their true heights. Not “society costs money to exist and the richest can pay more for it’s upkeep, while you may not see the benefit of minimum wages, meat worker safety law and the reason for delineation between investment and personal banking nor the rationale for securities legislation then you will forget that no man is an Island and that such short sightedness has lead to falls in standards and falls in the economy since this is not a meritocracy but a system that encourages raw greed. A Voice for Me – Fake Rape and Not Helping Anyone

One of the problems with the MRA community is that the genuine issues that affect men tends to get ignored in exchange for simply bashing a straw (wo)man. It’s easy to dismiss it as the last hurrah of the privileged losing their privileges.

It was the victim of a “fake rape” accusation. There are two opinions as to why I was accused of raping a woman at TAM (an Event I Never Attended). One it was a casual effort to silence me among the myriad other demands to keep me quiet. Or two it was an argument being made against PZ Myers and I was just “collateral damage”. A fair target for many since they insist my problem is not my statements but the soapbox I stand on.

And I pointed out that this accusation didn’t help anyone. It didn’t help the victims of rape. It didn’t help me. It didn’t help the victims of fake rape accusations. All it did was add a case where I had to defend myself against frankly slanderous comments made under the aegis of anonymity. Women would be told how this case was another example of fake rape that is “so common”. And male victims of fake rape would be harassed as much. [Read more…]

There Is A Reason We Think You Are Harming Men

There is a sub-sect of the MRA movement in which resides the Pick Up Artist.

See, the problem with MRA is that they forget about Men’s Rights and go straight onto bashing women’s rights. There are many men who fight for the rights of men who don’t do this, but a lot of men would rather bash women than help men. They begrudge women setting up shelters for abused women but do not show the same solidarity. Their haunts are cloistered worlds of slow bigotry. From the more “moderate” places like A Voice for Men where such charming denizens were found happily cooing along to their writers attacking women’s rights in Afghanistan and India to places like the Spearhead where there is a fairly large smattering of racism or people like Judgy Bitch who was outright blaming rape victims for their rapes. In this there is a sub-sect of people who are Pick Up Artists who think that there is a specific method for getting laid simply by following certain steps.

Yes we can all agree there are issues with being a man that are not spoken about clearly and yes a lot of that is men going “dude! Stop being a wuss” rather than women saying that.

But there are some statements that are so unbelievably vile that one cannot even fathom WHY or WHAT logic drove them to say such a horrific thing.

Now here is the thing. I think Roosh and the writer Tuthmosis are manufacturing controversy here. I place the link out of my sense of fair play although it gives me no sense of pleasure to do so. [Read more…]

A Voice for Me – A Firestorm of Helmet Bunnies, Sluts and Rape

[important]TW- Rape, Victim Blaming, Suicide, Depression[/important]

I recently came across this word in a twitter discussion (OKAY, Raging Argument) with Dean Esmay and Judgy Bitch. For those who don’t know who these are, Dean Esmay is one of the big shots up at A Voice for Men and Judgy Bitch is a lady MRA who I came across when she was blaming the victim of the Steubenville rape.

And this argument boiled down to the same “nonsense” that Thunderfoot was flogging. That rape victims if they don’t take specific precautions are to blame to varying levels for their rapes.

And this term “Helmet Bunny” was an affront to me. [Read more…]

The Corkscrew – An Idiot’s Guide to Safe Sex

[warning]This is an article about sex. The kind you learn on the discovery channel. The goal of this is to not just educate but also amuse because sex isn’t just serious. If you cannot laugh about sex then I am afraid you aren’t doing it right! And in order to laugh about sex you need to take some precautions. This is a collection of useful and common ideas, concepts and things that can be done. Now all of this advice may be suitable for your children or if you are children. So I am putting on a warning on this one. This is adult material. Not because it’s titillating but because really you should be getting this advice from a real person. I am on the Internet. I don’t have any responsibility to be honest. I can suggest that the ideal contraception is to chew garlic. This has to be taken in context and this is mainly to help adults think of ways to teach their kids about a subject that is awkward and frankly kind of weird to discuss. No one likes mum or dad explaining what a blowjob is and why it’s fun. No parent really wants to explain the importance of anal safety or safe words or anything outside that.

So I got help. Urvasi was a Hijra sex worker and is one of the success stories in leaving  sex work and instead moving to a supporting role where she provides sex education in order to fight the spread of disease and human beings in one fell swoop. And a lot of her ideas are about thinking sideways and we need to think like a corkscrew when it comes to educating people about contraception. Because there are two things that are required. The equipment and the mindset. And her method was instrumental in some of the successes we had out here.

Thinking like a corkscrew and losing some inhibitions can help talk about safe sex. I mean who best to talk about safe sex than the men and women who’s livelihoods depend on it? Who best to talk about encouraging compliance too?

So if you are sitting comfortably, let’s think a little bit corkscrewy.

The advice provided will be universal where possible[/warning]

Rick Perry – What if Your Mother Aborted You

“It is just unfortunate, that she hasn’t learned from her own example that every life must be given a chance to realize its full potential and that every life matters.” – Rick Perry

Rick Perry said that at the National Right to Life Conference (I wonder if the National Right to Life Conference is anti-death penalty?) about Senator Wendy Davis after her marathon 13 hour stall for time (AKA a filibuster) last week.

At the core of this argument is an idea of “What if you never existed? WHAT IF YOU WERE THAT BABY!” [Read more…]
