I Hate Shia LaBeouf But I Support Him

I often joked that Shia LaBeouf spent most of his career ruining my child hood. His roles in the remake of Rear Window started it. His role as whiney entitled douchebro in the Transformers movie cemented it. His detour to destroy the good memories of Indiana Jones only embellished his actions. The final straw was his role in the Wall Street sequel.

The sad truth is? He was easy to dislike. He was entitled. He was douchey. He stole and plagiarised less famous people. The bit from Transformers that defined him the most was his role in the Third one. Whining about his amazing house, angry in his car painted to remind himself of his glory days and angry that his girlfriend was more successful than he was. But I agree, he doesn’t write the scripts and I am going to assume he never really  spoke out against such hack acting. But he wasn’t a sympathetic character. He was a cock. [Read more…]

The Thug in Velvet – Not Your Dress

Indian women are often judged harshly for the clothes they wear. Either they are too revealing or too boring or too ugly or too scandalous. The idea of the “sexy” Indian woman exists only in the dream state of cinema.

The same men who whoop and holler at the sexy women on the big screen dancing to modern music would be quick to condemn both the music and much tamer outfits among “real women”.

Gauhar Khan is a fairly famous Indian actress who won last year’s “Indian Big Brother”. She was assaulted on stage by a man who took offence to the clothes she wore.

“Being a Muslim woman, she should not have worn such a short dress.”

It doesn’t matter what dress she wears. If you are offended then look away. She is not there to dress to your satisfaction.

I like it when Hera dresses up. It’s not a demand, it’s not even a request. It’s something she chooses to do to surprise me. But I don’t begrudge her in sweatpants and wearing my T-shirt while watching bad TV. The dress of a woman doesn’t allow you to touch her in any way. Her consent does. As any sort of man irrespective of the gods of your fathers, do you think it is acceptable to strike any human in public let alone a woman and promote the status quo of casual violence aimed at women?

And this isn’t the only such story of the casual nature of thuggish behaviour within Indian culture. It is very easy for a young man to be justified in his violence.

A young man belonging to the Scheduled Caste and his Muslim wife were hacked to death in broad daylight in a village of Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday – allegedly by the woman’s brother – for defying the diktat of the village headmen and staying married.

Sonu and Danishta Begum got married four months ago and lived in his house in Fatehpur Village around 75 Km from Delhi. In a story that would have made our hearts swell? They were neighbours for 13 years and childhood sweethearts.

Sonu was hacked to death by Danishta’s brother Talib before he cut her throat. Talib and the girl’s mother Noor Jehan have been arrested. Four others have evaded arrest.

While we would think that caste or religion would be the cause of the murder, it wasn’t. It was fear of reprisals from the Village Headmen that drove the killing.  [Read more…]

A Voice for Me/Gamergate – AVfM’s Communication’s Officer Allows Racism and Homophobia

Let’s face it. Men have issues. The world is changing and while Feminism has been great at fighting for the rights of women, men have generally seen their rights eroded. Mostly this is to stop the unfair advantages men have and the erosion has generally been a loss of special privileges or women gaining the same. In effect our status on pedestals has been eroded.

But there are issues with being on the pedestal that we still have. A ripe place for men to campaign for issues that affect them such as mental health. There are men who are discriminated against heavily such as Black and Gay men. There is a role for a “Men’s Rights” movement.

But not The Men’s Rights Movement. That’s just a hate group that worries about men’s rights in the same way that modern racists hide their racism by worrying about “white rights”.

These are the uncensored tweets. If they no longer link, that is because they have been taken down by the man who said them. The following MAY contain images that are NSFW and catalogue the barrage of hate I have received this morning. I am sure they are trolls and I am told the best thing to do is to ignore them, but here is the thing? The reason they get away with this is the high level MRA being complicit in this. Janet may have fled the conversation when she realised her ally is “fucked up” but at no point did she do what I would do. At no point did she correct her ally’s bad behaviour and speak out for the men. Instead what occurs is the MRA attempt to defend the words used. So here’s the warning? NSFW – Racism/Horrible Pictures if you follow the instructions. I am putting this up here after 12 hours. Janet Bloomfield has had time to respond to the usage of slurs and harassment. She has refused to do so.  [Read more…]

Thug In Velvet – Revisited

Around a decade ago there was a watershed in Indian culture.

We saw a concept come about in India and abroad.

It was called the New Indian Male. The very idea of the New Indian Male was a gentleman. He wore clothes that fit and wasn’t picked out by his mother. He understood fashion. He was gentler, kinder and indeed “more in touch with his feminine side”. His image on the big screen and in populist media was not one of the country boy or poor, but a middle class hero and his actions resonated the most with that demographic. In the minority of India that is Upper Middle Class this may hold true. More men broke gender roles and cooked, cleaned and raised children and this allowed more women to break out of those traditional roles and do non-traditional roles such as working. More men cleaned up themselves and after themselves. But what happened? Why have we shifted out of that? [Read more…]

Atheism’s MRA Problem

There was a piece of research done on the MRA of r/mensrights on Reddit which showed that they are mainly White, Young and Atheist. Now I know there was a bot entering values so it should be discounted but I do think there are is a fairly large representation of MRA or their ideas that are vocal among atheists.

This one’s by Grimachu and there are problems with this. And the major one is the request for dialogue while simultaneously excusing bad behaviour. This has always been a problem.

See the notion is that we are at fault. That FTB is a monolith. Never mind the fact that I noticed the slymepit coo gleefully over my stance against certain A+ members and indeed feminists over FGM without realising that feminism is itself not a monolith.

And while MRA may have become a slur, it is a slur brought on by the actions of MRA. The MRA have not worked to help men but to fuck over women. While Grimachu starts off here we will see what this entails later in the dialogue. [Read more…]

What About The Men?

Today is International Men’s Day and despite the self appointed guardians of Masculinity (AKA the MRA) having declared me as a Beta/Mangina/Whipped shadow of a man under the thrall of the femiwitches that control Freethought Blogs, I have decided to actually post something for it.

While men do have a big advantage over women in nearly all walks of life particularly in India where being male is like typing IDDQD in Doom. [Read more…]

Age of Kali – Thunderfoot – All India Backchod, Rape and Asking For It

Some people really don’t get why something is bad or harmful or not helpful to everyone involved.

Thunderfoot… for those who are unaware was and indeed still is a big deal among the atheist community. Back in the great creationist wars, he was in effect the biggest anti-creationist on the Youtubes.

A big deal all in all.

But then came his sudden and (IMHO) inexplicable assault on feminism and women in general. From his brief stint at FTB before I joined up resulting in one weird interview and the beginning of the Anti-FTB malarky to his frankly one sided take on Anita Sarkeesian.

But this?

There are many things wrong here. [Read more…]

A Voice for Me – Pet Rock

[warning]TW – Rape, Violence, Acid Throwing – This is a labour of hate. This is a gigantic rant over 8 hours in the making. This charts the absolute depths A Voice for men has plummeted in a recent article. It is long. It is not fun. It is terrible. I joke about it but I have to otherwise we will spend 18,600 words weeping at the heartlessness of the author.[/warning]
