A 14 month old toddler has been killed by what can only be called religious quackery and neglect. [Read more…]
As the occurrence of vaccine-preventable diseases declines, the challenge of communicating the risk of not being immunized increases.Every situation is unique; parents have diverse concerns for various reasons. These can be cultural, religious or even personal. Many believe there is a link between some diseases and immunisations or believe in strange ideas perpetrated by unscrupulous online media. It’s no secret.
Blogs like this actually are in the minority. I understand my blog is in the medium sized category. I can get around 1500 to 2000 hits a day. What I get in a month Natural News often gets in a day. It racks up 8 MILLION views. If a 1000 hits equated to $1 it would be large enough to be making around 9000 dollars A MONTH and that is without sales of quackery and speaking fees and all the other things Mike Adams gets. Considering the level of research and the harm it causes it is quite shocking. [Read more…]
I have long written about the withholding of aid to Gaza and the West Bank.
But one of the major problems is we keep saying that the information coming out of Gaza is solely in the hands of non-Israeli sources and so is suspect as propaganda. The Facebooks have been aflood with images of London and France with missiles above asking “what would you do”. The answer is “Not This”.
Protective Edge’s name alone clouds the fact it is a “pre-emptive strike”, defence by offence. [Read more…]
No. Bad! You don’t post this to me after I speak about a family member getting treated for cancer.
[What ensues is a medical related rant from Facebook, I figured that it invoked enough about medicine to be useful. Also? What the hell Anonymous? Thought you liked sticking up for people against bullshit merchants]
One of the things I realise is that the anti-vaccination lobby often utilise fairly unorthodox methodology to spread their ideas.
See? Science writing generally tends to stick to fairly well trodden paths. Even pop sci. Popular Science is science written to simplicity and provided with glossy photos and cool diagrams. But the thing with Pop Sci is that it generally sticks to the cool bits of science. It’s easy to sell this cool new rocket than it is to sell the basics.
It is why such magazines rarely advertise a new hygenic toilet despite that fact that is something basic that could save thousands if not millions of lives. It isn’t glamorous.
Neither is this.
Vickie Sorensen is one of the least talked about and deadliest breed of quacks out there.
Home Births are a hidden form of quackery. Wreathed in the language of female empowerment, bad statistics and anti-medical quackery home births have a rather deadly toll that is often not widely advertised and not often fought.
My “personal” anti-Obstetric nemesis is Mayer Eisenstein. A reknowned home and natural birth advocate. And a real doctor to boot. Mayer is brought out when the Natural and Home Birthers want a real doctor. [Read more…]
When the mom of a 15-year-old Indiana teen saw the Merck “One Less” campaign, she made sure her daughter Maddie got vaccinated with Gardasil.
After the first dose, Maddie started having pain and fatigue.
After the second one, she was in such bad shape she couldn’t even go to school.
Her mom now says that she wishes she could have “a do-over,” in deciding to have Maddie get the shot.
This is a common trope among the anti-vax. This entire piece are from a group of Christian Quacks. The claim they used to be famous for is that Biblical Lifestyle fights cancer. That rogue cancer cells would simply up and vanish if you waggled the divine knowledge of the Bible at them. Which is mighty polite.
The dialogue of the quack brigade is filled with the notion that there is a vast conspiracy to get you to spend enormous amounts of money on medication and that instead you should be spending it on whatever specific pseudo-science the quack wishes to flog.
Your actions are what determine the sort of person you are. Not your glittering spires or your technology. If all the achievement in the world is used to further a barbarous practice then your achievement is tarnished and hollow. All you are doing is using technology to maintain your medieval principles.
I know people will tar me for islamophobia. Because in their minds genuine criticism of Islam is on the same level as the EDL member shouting about “Muslamic Infiltration and Creeping Sharia Law”. So I figured that every time I criticise Islam? I should actually demonstrate what I spent my childhood doing.
See? I had Muslim friends. And I wanted to fit in. And this was a more liberal period of Islam. [Read more…]
