Age of Kali – This Morning in Chennai

This morning at Chennai Central Train Station there was a terror attack.

So far one woman died and 14 people are injured.

Two are critical.

I was not at the train station at the time, but it is on my normal route when I travel out for village work. Today is May Day, so I took a day off to read and get ready for exams.

So far no one knows who did it apart from the usual…. Epic Fucklords.

The young lady who died is just 24.

Age of Kali – Hotel Relax? Not Really

Earlier today I was told that I should stop representing India as a terrible place for women. The rationale is simple. The more people like me speak out against things that are wrong with India the more it validates racists.

It’s simple? If they didn’t have this to whinge about they would find something else to complain about. My personal favourite is all Indians stink of curry (You say it like it’s a bad thing). [Read more...]

Age of Kali – Honour is Earned by How You Treat Those You Love

“We had to do it, there was no hope for them and we had to teach others not to fall in love. It would dilute the values. This is not like the city that is poisoned by the decadence of the West. We do not want that here. I have saved others from making this mistake”

There is no honour here, there is no valour. Valour and honour are earned by achievement. By doing great things. You give above and beyond expected in order to earn these titles.

You do not dictate honour, others heap it on you. It lies like a coat, easily shrugged off. It does not define you. [Read more...]

Devyani Khobragrade – The Real Shame is Slavery

This is a storm in a tea cup story in the USA, but in India this was major news and the reaction of the Indian Government and the loudest voices is appalling.

I wrote about what makes someone a fanatic, whether it be the sort of man who could callously order his starving soldiers to charge an enemy and die killing as many of them as possible or visiting the most awful violence because you believe another person is inferior and not human… All of it stems from an ethical code that is not flexible and a systemic belief that you can do no wrong. Your actions are good otherwise you would not be doing it. [Read more...]

Age of Kali – Nirbhaya, 365 Days, Rape and India

I love how the slymepit empathically (metaphorically) rape the #ftbullies. It’s not even a fair fight. It’s heroes vs zeros. – Anonymous

I like the fact that the OP used “Empathic Rape” without any idea of what the word “Oxymoron” means. I am going to assume that this was said by someone who isn’t part of the Slymepit because this sort of thing never comes from the pit, just from people who like the place.

See the person here cares little for the victims of rape and just wants to elicit the “pearl clutching” response from Social Justice blogs. But the funny thing is this. It’s one of the first tweets I saw after I got back from standing on the side lines with a bag of medicine as a protest took place. And the coincidence is that I did this a year ago too. Age of Kali – A Year On

I got this mail last year. It effectively asked me why I wasn’t willing to stand up and say something about the Indian rape. Why my blog was filled with the stories of women and indeed men who fought against the rape.

Why not my story of the Indian Rape Riots and Protests?

I had a good reason. I am Indian by ethnicity. Not by nationality and my culture is “British Asian” which is a weird amalgam. That was the story of women in India, not my story of my time on the lines.

But it’s been a year. So I wanted to write about what I did and what I saw. [Read more...]

Age of Kali – Section 377

On Wednesday morning, Abhina dressed in her finest clothes. It was a big day for her. See, she’s a Transgender Activist.

Some people called me one but I had to decline. I work with the Hijra. A traditional Indian Eunuch culture. I don’t pretend to understand a lot of trans culture, I just was a doctor who didn’t feel uncomfortable treating them.

Abhina Aher is the real deal though. [Read more...]

Age of Kali – If We Do Not Criticise Islam

(An FIR is a First Information Report. It’s a little catch all for “told the police and wrote a case up about someone with the idea of pressing legal charges against them”.)

If we do not criticise Islam, then the people who require criticism will keep having free reign and will drag Islam down the dark path it already is in. Where they will silence their moderates and liberals and where they will rule with the fear of the Fatwa. Where they have hordes of “true” Muslims at their beck and call who will happily persecute and even execute the Muslims and anyone else who aren’t “true”.  [Read more...]
