At what point does someone else’s problem become our own problem? We all say “Well That’s What We Would Do” but doing something and saying you will do something are two entirely different beasts.
But when you are holding yourself (or claiming that you are holding yourself) to higher values than the rest of us mere mortals then you have to back up words with actions.

Amusingly stupid and racist that is.
The Internet has a fascination with bacon. What’s not to like? Bacon is rather tasty and while baconnaise is an assault on all that is good about food bacon generally has been a force for good.
That is until bigots and racists got hold of it.

Part of the anti-vaccine movement’s strength is that the majority of diseases we vaccinate for are thankfully rare these days. So it’s easy for them to say “Oh! That thing? Yeah it’s harmless! Proper diet and cleanliness is what you need! Not those doctors and their knives! Bloody scaremongerers! Don’t you know they are rich! Rich people are all evil!”
Doctors are rich because the job is
1. Stressful
2. High Responsibility
3. Detrimental to the health of the doctor
4. Difficult
Anyone can be a doctor, but not everyone is willing to make the sacrifices needed. And for that we have professionalised medicine. Is it just me or does the idea of an amateur self taught “doctor” seem detrimental to the health of our patients?
To see this article on the Truth about Tetanus doing the rounds makes me worry that there are amateur doctors out there.

In a Theocracy, the Fundamentalist is King. And the usual lamb that is sacrificed on the altar of faith is the rights of women.
On Saturday afternoon at Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University in Quetta, a bomb was detonated on a bus killing 14 students and injuring 19. These students were taken to Bolan where a second bomb was detonated in the Emergency Department.
Militants who were able to get inside the building then opened fire, killing Quetta Deputy Commissioner Mansoor Kakar, who had rushed to the hospital after hearing about the bus bombing.

This is a project I wanted to do for a while.
Basically? Anti-Vax vs. Vaccination is a major problem in a large part of the developing world. Quackery movements in general are meshed together. And as I always say, the best ammunition against them is education.
So I figure we should discuss some common diseases. Just “Stuff” about how they really are.
