Yes we have a new blog

Yes, we have a new blog. And yes I kind of like it.

Look, no website’s perfect. FTB’s got a huge writer pool and our old problem was that new blogs languished at the bottom of a front page that was designed according to when the author joined. This was fine when FTB was half a dozen authors. We are on 32 and growing. If we simply alphabetised it then I would have the advantage (if you note? Since my blog starts with an A, I would be at the top of the Blog Roll). So we decided on categories. A way to get people to read according to interests rather than blog loyalty and to help many of the guys at the bottom of the blog roll with greater awareness.

And also for people to realise we aren’t just “SJW” (Social Justice Warlocks) but we write on a myriad of topics.

If you have any suggestions to improve how we work, leave em in the comments.

Small problems I have with the new layout are as follows:

    1) In the mobile view I couldn’t seem to get to the actual list of blogs (on the left).
    2) In the Category view, some blogposts are in multiple categories.
    3) It’s not so easy to tell who wrote the given blogpost at a single glance. Adding the author’s avatar (could be smaller) would help immensely.
    4) On this particular blog the white in the right bottom corner of the background is too strong. Dark-red to white is too big of a contrast, it looks as if the screen was reflecting a light-source behind me.

Otherwise it’s pretty much all an improvement =).

    “SJW” (Social Justice Warlocks)

    To this I say yes.

Yeah I’m partial to the old background myself.

Yeah this is just temporary background, not a fan of the grey… The old background doesn’t match the new colour theme and I was wanting a nice little match. I may do the entire background in a solid red.

We had an issue where blog categories would overlap, at the moment we limit ourselves to two categories at the most. Yeah I can put that forward.

The red background makes it impossible to read the red text of the “previous post” link. Or to tell it’s there without a mouseover.

One issue with this, though, is if the “guys at the bottom” don’t post much, their posts can still get buried by the Braytons and Myers that post 20 times a day. (Granted, Ed’s posts are going to fall primarily in the government and politics categories.)

    Warlocks. :D

    I’m going with witch, myself.

…languished at the bottom of a front page that was designed according to when the author joined

That is true. It is still hard to get through the list, but I’ve found I already checked ones out I probably would have missed before since I primarily relied on the “recent posts” bar.

Also, I’m glad the “active” is gone. Always regret clicking on those. And they don’t need help so yeah.

Sorry, but the categories don’t work for me. At all. Bring back the main page organized by blog, with one exception:
Whenever there’s a new post, that blog moves to the top of the page. That way we readers see the new stuff and the inactive blogs, of which there are always a few, sink to the bottom.

Please let me know if you’re looking for a author for your weblog.

You have some really good posts and I believe I would be a good asset.

If you ever want to take some of the load off, I’d absolutely love to
write some content for your blog in exchange for a link back to mine.
Please send me an email if interested. Regards!

certainly like your web-site but you need to check the spelling on several of your posts.
Several of them are rife with spelling problems and I to find it very troublesome to inform
the reality then again I will certainly come back again.
