Has Kevin Swanson actually seen Frozen?

So American talk radio host Kevin Swanson and Steve Vaughn were up in arms a few days ago about Frozen (the Disney movie) being a way to indoctrinate young girls into the sapphic arts and turn them into lesbianists.

If you think this sounds stupid then it really is.

Swanson: Man, how many children are taken into these things and how many Christians are taking their kids off to see the movie Frozen, produced by an organization that is probably one of the most pro-homosexual organizations in the country? You wonder sometimes, I’m not a tinfoil hat conspiratorialist, but you wonder sometimes if maybe there’s something very evil happening here. If I was the Devil, what would I do to really foul up an entire social system and do something really, really, really evil to 5- and 6- and 7-year-olds in Christian families around America?

Unlike say? Pink News or GLAAD? Because when gays are bashed it is Mickey Mouse who shows up to defend them? And Scrooge McDuck? Wealthy, old duck that hung around his buff pilot?

You are a tin foil hate conspiracy theorist, it is a major multinational corporation. They want to make money and that means making shows that everyone likes.

Including the gay people.

Vaughn: I would make a movie.

Oh no! You are on to our cunning plans.

Swanson: I would buy Disney. If I was the Devil, I would buy Disney in 1984, that’s what I would have done.

Swanson does realise that the Devil EVEN in Christian mythos is imprisoned in hell and is in effect “Prison Top Dog” more than “Nefarious anti-thesis to Jehovah”. Satan for all intents and purposes is a Promethean figure, who uplifted mankind and was so punished to have his liver pecked out. I mean burn in hell for all eternity.

Vaughn: Then you would start making all these nice little movies that throw little things in there that make sin look enticing, in fact some of the worst of sins, make it look enticing or at least to start to indoctrinate slowly, turn the heat up on the frog in the pan.

Yes, that Little Mermaid…. it lead me to a life of disobeying my father to lust after a hot prince.

And that Beauty and the Beast? Taught me the value of Stockholm Syndrome

And Jungle Book? Makes me want to hug bears.

And Dumbo? Makes me question aerodynamics and gravity.

Swanson: Friends, this is evil, just evil. I wonder if people are thinking: “You know I think this cute little movie is going to indoctrinate my 5-year-old to be a lesbian or treat homosexuality or bestiality in a light sort of way.” I wonder if the average parent going to see Frozen is thinking that way. I wonder if they are just walking in and saying, “Yeah, let’s get my five-year-old and seven-year-old indoctrinated early.” You know they’re not, I think for the most part they’re oblivious. Maybe they do pick up on pieces of it but they just don’t get up and walk out.

What? How the fuck does Frozen indoctrinate you for a homosexuality and bestiality? I may have not cottoned on to it but at no point in Frozen does either occur. I suppose we can point out that the singers from Frozen include the lead from Wicked and someone from Glee and musical theatre and Glee are rather aimed at homosexuals but little kids aren’t going to be entranced by same sex attraction simply  because of a catchy beat.

Swanson: I’m guessing the majority of American parents don’t want their little boys turning into sodomites, at this point. if you were to interview, stick a microphone in front of most parents dropping their kids off at the average K-6 school in Colorado where they’re sporting their GLSEN signs everywhere, but if you just interview them and you ask them: “Is your vision for this little 6-year-old boy, 8-year-old boy, 9-year-old, 10-year-old boy that he turn into a sodomite?” My guess is that 60 to 70 percent of them would say, “that would be my worst nightmare.”

Of course that changes over time and it does change, everything is slipping here. You feel it slipping, can’t you? You feel the whole sexual thing slipping down and it’s affecting boys. I think the position of parents with 18- to 22-year-old boys tends to change, especially as they’re being indoctrinated by Disney and others.

American society I think is going to fracture on this one. The Boy Scouts are the fault line, you got six percent leaving, you got Disney pulling funding. This is fracturing our society and I can see how it might, I can see how some parents might be very strong, they don’t want their children indoctrinated in any way into the lifestyle of sodomy.

I am sure they would say the same thing about their 6, 8, 9 or 10 year old boys having sex with a woman.

Because 6, 8, 9 or 10 year old boys having sex is a parent’s worst nightmare. And your guess? And dear Swanson, you can commit sodomy while being straight too.

So wait, our acceptance of the GLBT is due to my liking of Disney Movies?

Vaughn: And if you fall into that camp, you got to get them out of Sodom, you got to bring them home.

Wait wait wait.

I just realised something.

Dear Vaugh and Swanson.

Who are these people and why aren’t they taking their meds?

Also, I’m sure the tinfoil hat conspiratorialists are pleased as punch that these deluded hate-bags are disassociating themselves from people who are merely tinfoil hat conspiratorialists.

    Dear Vaugh and Swanson.

It’s even worse than I imagined! Now Disney is promoting LESBIAN INCEST!!! /s

I guess the bestiality bit is referring to Kristoff and his reindeer, Sven? The song the trolls sing pokes fun by saying their relationship violates several natural laws. Honestly, though, none of it matters. These jokers have a narrative about the world collapsing, they’ve got a supernatural baddie that can be as evil as they can imagine and can justify paranoia over anything.

You know, I was already expecting some kind of havoc about the morality value of Frozen, but I thought that the conservative side would complain the strong flair of female emancipation would be the cause. I never, ever, would have thought that this movie would be accused of promotion of lesbianism. Really, guys? I know that these movies upset you since the female characters began showing a bit of personality and stop being for ever the passive subject to be rescue, but really? It’s an amazing movie! AND the first time that Disney puts sisterly love in first line! And it has given us one of the best songs ever!!!!!!

By the way, I was reading the quotations and singing for myself “let it go, let it go…”. Really, Kev, Steve, LET IT GO.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to see a gay liberation theme in Frozen, as discussed here and here. But, as usual, that’s not a bad thing if you’re not a bigot.

And about the Devil, he was banished to the Earth after the rebellion (which is how he showed up in Eden and was later able to tempt Christ) and will end up in the lake of fire only after armageddon. Then again, he’s also supposed to be already in Hell (cf. Dante and Milton; also the Harrowing of Hell part of the Christ mythos). Let us ignore his presence in Heaven when God made the wager about Job. As usual, Christianity is self-contradictory.

I just saw the movie last weekend and loved it, so I googled a bit to try to figure out where this was coming from. Apparently there was a Mormon website earlier with the same vague, unfounded accusations:

The best I can figure out is that maybe they don’t like the movie because it is anti-closet. The heroine spends the first half of the movie terrified of being revealed as different, shamed by her parents, shut away from human companionship, and desperately attempting to conceal or repress her emotions. Which, to the religious right, is AS IT SHOULD BE. If you are in any way different or unusual, then OF COURSE you should take every means possible to conceal or repress it, as God wants you to. God wants us all to be just the same, don’t you know, or at least act that way.

A main theme of the movie is that hiding behind shut doors and keeping your feelings locked away is deadly, both to yourself and those around you. But to these people, it is good and necessary, so their opposition makes perfect sense. The one encouraging thing is that they don’t seem to have the guts to come right out and say what there is that they don’t like about it — maybe they dimly realize how awful it makes them sound.

I haven’t seen Frozen, and I can tell these guys are babbling.

Yep, Satan was trying to help, and he was speaking the truth. Comparing him to Prometheus was good.

If I was an evil demon, trying to screw up the world, I’d have invented religion.

“I’m not a tinfoil hat conspiratorialist”

If you keep coming up with shit like this then I’m afraid that I will have to pull out the “You Are A Tinfoil Hat Conspiratorialist” card.

In any case the younger sister, Anna, is explicitly hetero, it’s a key plot item.

I wonder if Swanson and Vaughn are thinking about this *way* too much.

I have a pet theory that I find to be very broadly applicable: Any statement of the form “I’m not _____, but…” will always be strongly ______.

Let’s apply it to the quoted statement: “I’m not a tinfoil hat conspiratorialist, but [I believe the Devil is working through Disney to turn young girls into evil lesbians].”

I have yet to see a conterexample to my little rule.
