I am 18, and I am a Christian. I just want to know a couple things..
-Why are you guys Atheists? If you knew a God existed (say He presents Himself) would you believe He exists?
Actually? Simple declaration of divinity doesn’t make you a god.
Let’s look at an actual culture that did not show the skeptical (Or is alleged to have not shown) chops in such a scenario.
The Aztec Empire. Apparently the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadors had them believing the Spanish as some sort of divine beings. Maybe… I am not an expert on that.
However there are other cults such as the Cargo Cults where individuals are venerated as divine bringers of “Cargo”. The very act of believing the planes as gods or messengers there of is intrinsic to the cargo cults.
However cultures that were shown planes but did not demonstrate a cargo cult probably recognised them as machines or indeed were curious. To be declared as a god the being would have to demonstrate beyond all doubt that it’s powers were frankly magic rather than sufficiently advanced technology.
-Were you at one point a Christian? What made you change? Do you blame the church?
No. I was never Christian. Never believed in any of Christianity. I did however believe in Hinduism.
That being said? There are many churches and their actions have a lot to answer for.
-If a connection with a God could only bring you so much to gain, and nothing to lose, why be an Atheist?
Because there is no god. A connection with your imaginary friend also brings “some gain”. It’s why we all have them growing up. But eventually we realise they are just imaginary. And such a connection to a god also brings you losses such as the loss of skepticism and the loss of freedom of thought.
Religion was called the opiate of the masses not JUST for it’s addictiveness but also because it was like opium. It clouded people’s judgement and made them more amenable to control. We forget that the communist revolutions that occurred were against major tyranny but like all revolution one must not lose sight of those who seek power.
-Is it possible that a God has allowed for humanity to learn about it’s environment to a certain extent? (Meaning: a creationist POV, God controls the extent to which man makes discoveries)
It is theoretically possible. However that seems needlessly complex and indeed there is no indication of such. Humanity as a whole seems to discover things not based on divine discovery but by a process of experimentation, trial and error and observation.
There is no evidence to suggest any of that. That’s not even a hypothesis. That’s a what if scenario. What if the mice are the real smart ones in our experiments? You cannot disprove it.
-Are you angry at a God? Meaning, you voice harsh opinions on this subreddit due to bad experience?
No. I cannot get angry at mythological characters. I am about as angry at god as I can be angry at the tooth fairy or the cyclops.
Edit: I’m a Christian who believes that science is a method of learning about our world, where God places fixed limits on what humans can achieve. Plate Tectonics, The Big Bang, Physics, Chemical compositions, Biology, all the sorts are true/acceptable theories/ 100% fact. However, I believe that a God has given humanity the opportunity to learn about themselves and our world. Sooo Im a creationist.
Every single limit of “what humans can achieve” has been broken. Not one has stood up to science eventually. At the start of the century people honestly believed powered flight was impossible. Now? Now we fly for fun. We believed that if you travelled faster than the speed of a horse our body would fail under the stress and shake itself to pieces. We hurtle along our roads at 70 Mph! A horse cannot even cover that distance in a day not without being half dead on arrival!
The start of the universe does not require a god. Just because something is unexplainable today it doesn’t mean it will be tomorrow.
After an hour or so of taking down answers, I would like to thank you guys for being decent and answering those simple questions…just proves that atheists aren’t bad people, like Christians would suppose.
We can now only sit back and wait for anything to happen. God or not, I think I’ll stick to Faith…call me what you would like, it’s something that I won’t leave behind.

That’s the thing. You cannot leave faith because you cannot see the obvious point. If god’s setting up everything to run like this then you have no proof of any gods let alone the specific one you believe in. You are literally invoking Spinoza’s god, a god of engineering who did stuff then knocked off to his intergalactic pub.
The problem here is you have put the boundaries of man into a box that cannot be breached no matter what we do. That is until we breach it. Remember, creationists once believed biology was the sole realm of god and that one could not understand the hand that wrought us. Then we realised biology is a science and we can explain not only how man works but how all living beings do so.
Why must the boundaries you have set be any different?
