War on Religion

Star Parker on the Christian Post weighs in on SAME SEX MARRIAGE (DUM DUM DUMMMMM)

The Book of Proverbs, part of biblical canon, once a vital part of American culture, tells us: “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

I will also point out that the ownership of human beings as property were once a vital part of American Culture. Just because you did something in the past doesn’t mean you should keep doing it.

And this is without the historical fact that the USA was founded on secular values rather than as a theocratic state.

It’s this haughty spirit, this pride that precedes destruction that lies behind the Supreme Court’s decision last week to bury the Defense of Marriage Act.

DOMA defined marriage, for purposes of federal law, as traditional marriage – the union of man and woman.

And not the traditional marriage between man and many women (Solomon) or man and slave or man and wife of dead brother or man and rape victim or man and prisoner of war (female – male ones got executed. Because Genocide Is Godly)

That’s the thing. Traditional Marriage in America has included the (technical) union of same sex couples. Traditional doesn’t mean Bibllical, many Native Americans had a very modern approach to GLBT of the day.

DOMA was designed to discriminate against the GLBT and refuse them the benefits of state that straight couples take for granted. Either DOMA had to go or your benefits had to go.

This decision did not come out of nowhere. It did not happen in a vacuum. It is but the latest in a long process of the unraveling of American culture driven by pride – the sense that we answer to no higher authority. That the two-legged animal man is master of the universe and decides, invents right and wrong, true and false.

Yes.

That’s why slavery is correct according to “your higher power” while we know today slavery is wrong.

There have been many stops on the way to this Supreme Court decision relegating marriage, as we have known and understood it for millennia, to a casual fiction that could come out of Hollywood.

I know! Now I have to break up with Tiga and date this brick. Because marriage has been redefined!

Bow Chika Wow Wow

One stop we might note was the Supreme Court’s decision in 1980, Stone v Graham, that said that posting the Ten Commandments in a public school is unconstitutional.

Yes it is unconstitutional because of the establishment clause of the constitution of the USA. And the problem is if marriage is purely a Christian institution then the government CANNOT sanction marriages since it would break the establishment clause.

A free society must start with a foundation of rules. If our biblical tradition is not the source of these rules, what rules do define how we live and where do these rules come from?

The foundation of rules is based on the ideas of humanism that were knocking about at the time and indeed a lot of ideas were based on the notion of Republic where the traditional power of Church and King were diminished and the rule was by elected representatives.

The preamble of our Constitution tells us that its purpose is to secure the “blessings of liberty.”

What is a blessing? The first definition in my Webster’s New World Dictionary says that a blessing is “a statement of divine favor”.

How can we secure divine favor in a nation for which the divine is unconstitutional? A prideful nation by definition must be a nation that rejects the idea of a blessing.

“Blessings of Liberty” means the benefits of liberty.

He was a lion in battle doesn’t mean that Richard the Lionheart turned into a freaking lion!

In the pride that precedes destruction in America of 2013, we reject that there are truths that don’t come out of a laboratory. We reject that that there are truths that parents get from their parents and pass on to their children.

A truth that has no evidence is a truth only because people have refused to analyse it.

So now we live in society in which there is nothing that distinguishes a child from an adult, that distinguishes responsible from irresponsible.

Er… since when? We have legislation delineating the progression to adulthood. In the USA it’s 21. In Europe it is 18.

Who suffers the most?

First and foremost, children. Because they are deprived from learning and taking seriously the very rules of life’s road that are critical to live successfully.

How does two gay men or two lesbians getting benefits such as joint healthcare and power of attorney in emergencies stopping children from learning and “taking seriously the very rules of life’s road”?

That’s like suggesting that if you drive a mountain bike rather than a road bike the children in schools will starve because school dinners will no longer be available.

Even more so, children from minority families.

Because black people will abandon their children (hence the term… Gay Abandon) and then proceed to go get gay married while leaving their children in locked boxes? I don’t know.

Sixty seven percent of black children are raised in single parent households. The collapse of black family life reflects this very welfare state materialism, bestowed to blacks by elitist white liberals, that defines the culture that now rejects the sanctity of traditional marriage.

And how will gay marriage precipitate this? The words this person says means something. But they are used incorrectly in context.

Welfare State materialism is a proper oxymoron. Wait are they suggesting that welfare is designed by “Whitey” to destroy the sanctity of black marriage and collapse black family life?

Can you imagine that meeting of “The Man” (I assume everyone looks like a blackspoloitation villain at this meeting) where they decide to destroy black people by giving them money….

Can there be any doubt that the grandparents and great grandparents of the five Supreme Court Justices who just voted to delegitimize the sanctity of traditional marriage in America would be appalled by the decisions of their offspring?

Actually yes.

3 of their grandparents and great grandparents would be appalled that their descendants were working as judges.

And 2 of their grandparents and great grandparents would be astonished their descendants were working as judges.

And there is a good chance that the remaining judges grandparents and great grandparents would have been appalled by who their descendants work with.

Explanation?

3 of the current judges are women. Their great grandparents and even grandparents would have had very different ideas about the role of women in society. It wasn’t to be Supreme Court Justices…

2 of the current judges are Puerto Rican and Black.

Any guesses as to how they would have been perceived in the 40s and 20s?

But when values of meaninglessness become sanctioned as part of our public and official culture we should know that this is the “pride” that “goes before destruction.”

I assume gay marriage is meaningless because gay people cannot make babies.

Because if that’s the only reason to get married then I am afraid there is a reason why marriages don’t work out. And it’s not to do with welfare.

Let there be no doubt that same-sex marriage is about much more than marriage. It is a deliberate and conscious assault on religion and all traditional values.

A Bacon Cheeseburger is a greater assault on religion than same sex marriage.

We have only two options. Turn back to where we belong or watch the continuing collapse of our country.

The same collapse of society that has apparently been happening for thousands of years. Where the world has gotten more and more sinful and more and more terrible.

Correction: in the USA, adulthood begins at 18, although you are not fully empowered (legally) until 21. You need to be 21 to buy a handgun (and handgun ammunition) and to drink. Oddly enough, you could by an AR-15 and all of its ammunition and extended magazines you want on your 18th birthday, without a background check or questions.

Great takedown, Avi. This one’s a keeper for my quote collection: “A Bacon Cheeseburger is a greater assault on religion than same sex marriage.”

This quip from Mr. Parker says a lot — and none of it is good:

A free society must start with a foundation of rules. If our biblical tradition is not the source of these rules, what rules do define how we live and where do these rules come from?

Translation: I have an enormous empathy deficit and barely controlled sociopathic tendencies, and cannot determine right from wrong on my own without an explicit list of clear rules to follow. When the rules are contradictory, I’ll just go with the one that upholds my unearned privilege.

Also, I just love “our biblical tradition” — as if a fundamentalist Christianity were not a minority view now and at the founding of the country. In my experience, conservative Christians are universally clueless to the embarrassing, arrogant narcissism on display nearly every time they open their mouths.

Oh, and congratulations to you and your brick!

Once again brilliant! The lack of ANY kind of critical or logical thinking in the religious right is terrifying. But I guess that is why they are so heavily involved in home schooling. If their children were taught logic their whole system would collapse.

I’m sure it has nothing to do with the massive incarceration of black males in the US.
But seriously, I keep hearing this idiotic argument from the more annoying kind of libertarians and I’m always stunned how they fail to see just how racist it is (but then again many of them are Ron Paul fans and they fail to see how racist he is as well) to assume that the evils of the [scare quotes] welfare state[/scare quotes] would only effect black families while white families would be immune, which is the only logical conclusion from their claim that it was the black family specifically that got destroyed by programs that provide bare level of sustenance and limited access to healthcare to poor people.

I was looking for the data, wich I doubt, but what I found is pretty consistent with them.

On an other hand, I also found that US is still pretty racist (I may accept that is more a matter of classism than racism, tough). Given the ethnicity distribution of married people, about 26% marriages should be interracial. But in 2010 only about 4% of them were (US census data)
