Racist and Sexist

When the BNP set the bar low they set it fucking low.

For those who are unaware, TV Chef Nigella Lawson “may” have been a victim of domestic violence. Domestic violence in a public place. He was photographed holding her by the throat at a restaurant.

Honestly? It’s a cut and shut case. There is nothing to comment about. Charles Saatchi is a violent man who hits his wife. His wife wants to divorce him and this is a public way to leave him. She can escape from this.

It doesn’t matter that she is herself a rich and powerful woman with agency and the ability to care for herself. That doesn’t mean she stayed because she “liked” it. It means that there were other things. She may have loved him and stuck with him because of that.

Now here is the thing. Nigella is infamous among men for being a bit… hot.

Okay. Very Hot. She is an extremely pretty lady who cooks well and is rather sexy. There are a lot of jokes about her cooking shows being popular with “the dads” for a different reason. She wasn’t the waifish stick figure that modern standards of beauty have become she is the curvy “normal” looking attractive. And she accepted that role as “Sex Figure + TV Chef”. I would say she knew her audience, I don’t see Jamie Oliver make come hither eyes at the camera.

But you know what? We may joke her being sexy and we may objectify her but in the end she understood that we did it and she understood that was her selling point. It was funny when she was hot and on TV and not being a victim of abuse. Now is not the time to be making jokes about her. Now is not the context either.

The vast majority of the UK responded in horror at his actions and with words of support. Domestic Violence is a crime and the police are making enquiries with the view of placing charges…

Roughly 1 in 3 women worldwide is subject to rape or domestic violence. In many places domestic violence is the norm. Women expect to be beaten and men expect to do it. Many women even SUPPORT it. It is however a terrible practice that is abusive and abusive MAINLY to women and mainly perpetrated by men. A small number of women beat men but the majority of men beaten by their partners are beaten by other men.

It is a terrible problem one that we are desperately trying to fight.

So then what do you call someone who says this?

If I had the opportunity to squeeze Nigella Lawson, her throat wouldn’t be my first choice.- Tweet by Nick Griffin, MEP for the BNP

Classy fucker.

Oh he has said more stuff that’s “vile”.

“Saint #nelsonmandela on last legs it seems. Make sure to avoid BBC when the murdering old terrorist croaks. It’ll be nauseating.

“‘Statesmen’ must be judged on results not rhetoric. Before Mandela, South Africa was safe economic powerhouse. Now crime ridden basket case.

“No surprise #Mandela’s lungs are shot – all those burning tyres. Smoking necklaces very bad for the health.”

- On a Sick Nelson Mandela

Keep talking Mr. Griffin. You think jokes about sexual harassment and domestic violence are amusing and you belittle the achievements of Nelson Mandela when all you have achieved is sinking to depths that we have not imagined.

Statesmen must be judged on results, not rhetoric. Shame that all Nick Griffin is known for is bad rhetoric, gay bashing and racism. It’s good to know he is diversifying into joking about domestic violence and sexual assault. Now we can find new and more diverse ways to be disappointed with him.

His appearence on Question Time a little while ago really showed the British people how vile he and his party are. For once he was given an open platform to state exactly what his opinions and policies were and support for them dropped like a stone – he now heads a party thoroughly immersed in debt and struggling to keep its racist, homophobic head above water.

Give the man a loudspeaker and let him keep shooting his own feet.

And who could forget Cassetteboy’s wonderful remix of that Question Time appearance?

Did you miss the one where he knows his party is so far gone, he urged its members to go out and breed more? Forgetting, of course, to give explicit instructions as to who with, which just shows how out of touch he is. A recovering BNP member commented:

The problem is that your typical BNP member is a social pariah who is more into pornography than starting a family

Griffin is basically the Glen Beck of Britain. Or the Rush Limbaugh, or whatever…

Meh. I choose what cooking show to watch the same way I choose which music to listen to: by the content, not how the cook or musician looks. Who would you really rather listen to, Rihanna or Sarah Vaughn? Whose food would you rather eat, Lawson’s or Oliver’s?

For those who haven’t seen it, he’s referring to the WHO study showing how rampant the problem is.

” the majority of men beaten by their partners are beaten by other men.”

WAT? Can you provide a citation for this claim which seems extraordinary to claim given the sheer numbers of heterosexual versus homosexual couples?

    For instance http://www.americanbar.org/groups/domestic_violence/resources/statistics.html states

“15.4% of same-sex cohabiting men reported being raped, physically assaulted and/or stalked by a male partner, but 10.8% reported such violence by a female partner.”

The Atlantic suggests 3.5% of the population is gay but the figure may go as high as 10%.

It’s simple math to understand that if 90 of the population is straight, 50% of them are men, 100% are in a marriage and 11% of the men are beaten by their wives, that means that 4.9% of the population is men, being beaten by their wives. That’s .9 * .5 * .11 or about 5%.

If 10% of the population is LGBT, and 50% of them are gay men and all of them are married, and 15% of the men report being beaten by their male partners, that’s .1 * .5 * .15 = .075% of the population is men being beaten by their male partners.

Please provide a citation for your extraordinary claim that the majority of men beaten by their partners are beaten by other men.

Because it sounds like innumerate, homophobic, sexist, outlandish, bullshit.

Or maybe it’s just vague, you tell me.

The fact the Griffin is a holocaust-denying antisemite and Nigella is of Jewish descent would, if it were possible, add an extra level of bad-taste to his remarks.

i still think my fav moment from him was when he was doing that rant against immigration (specifically eastern European people) and the backdrop he chose was the second world war poster with the spitfires on it.. obviously being so stupid as to not realise it was for the RAF 303 Polish squadron :D do love a good bit of irony from people like him, isnt his party currently being investigated for fraud by the EU and UK authorities anyway?
