On Bullies

I was poking around Cracked and ran across this paragraph.

Let’s be very clear here. Physically beating someone up to the point where they’re beat up at all is not bullying, it’s being a crazy person. Pushing fragile teens so far that they’re driven to suicide isn’t bullying, it’s being a sociopath. And we can use the word “cyberbullying” all we want, but if you’re relentlessly and systematically torturing someone over and over again, you might be a “cyberpsychopath.”

From http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-life-lessons-from-former-mean-girl/#ixzz2PPgX0k52

I think it’s the perfect description of the difference between “simple bullying” and the kind of harassment we see against the GLBT and the kind of online bullying we have started noticing against our kids and indeed even against our adults.

Still, even if you only do it once, and all your friends only do it once each, we now have a mob of “cybersociopaths.”

I think we could do without the mental disablism of “crazy person,” but otherwise, okay, what the hell…
