Mock the Movie: Scary Clown!

This Wednesday, MockTM dives into the world of bad decision making with horror film House of Fears. Also, a scary clown. And an evil scarecrow. A bunch of teenagers decide to take a “sneak peak” at a haunted house, despite the fact that breaking in means the scary part–the actors–aren’t supposed to be there. That’s right, the mockability starts with the first line uttered in the trailer.

This one is available on Netflix and Amazon instant video. That makes it not technically free for everyone, so after this, we’ll do a stretch of freebies. Feel free to make suggestions. Continue reading “Mock the Movie: Scary Clown!”

Mock the Movie: Oops, But…Um…Look, Vampires!

Well, we were supposed to do this week’s mocking last week, but a certain some of us (Jason and well, me) entirely lost track of time on vacation. So we’re doing it this week instead, and starting our Wednesday schedule. Hopefully this will have been worth the wait. It did have a big-budget release and all.

This one won’t be free, so plan ahead, but it should be entertaining. Not good, exactly, but entertaining. Continue reading “Mock the Movie: Oops, But…Um…Look, Vampires!”

Mock the Movie: Sci-Fi Caveman Edition

This Thursday, on December 13, it will be Yor, the Hunter from the Future. How can we resist? Well-oiled caveman with 80s hair meets dinosaurs and laser beams. Come on. You’d do it too. In fact, you can, as long as it doesn’t get pulled before we get to it.

Mock the Movie: Cecil B. DeMille Edition

This Thursday, on November 29, Mock the Movie will return to its SyFy (then SciFi) roots with Sands of Oblivion. It is supposed to be one of their better productions, but…well. Still, we’ll have Morena Baccarin and Adam Baldwin for the slash lovers (did anyone ever actually want Jayne and Inara to hook up?), Homer Simpson as Cecil B. DeMille, and American desert that, for once, isn’t standing in for Egyptian desert. Just fake Egyptian desert. This one is available on Hulu or YouTube if you’re willing to fall behind slightly for commercials.

Whatever Google Image Search You Did

By now you’ve probably heard of Tony Harris, sexist asshole artist.

Before now, there was a good chance you admired his work without knowing who he was. The comic book industry can be thankless that way. Lots of people like what they like without paying close attention to who produced it for them. This is extra true for artists, weirdly. A comic book writer creates a story for you, but the artist brings it to life. Still, plenty of people don’t know who draws what they read.

We’ll just pretend, because it is an actual unfair thing that happens, that Tony Harris was tapping into a well of bitterness over that when he went off on a sexist tirade about why “real” geeks don’t like women cosplaying at cons. It doesn’t make it the tiniest bit better, but we’ll pretend anyway. After all, the original rant has been fisked, countered with cosplay love, and put in its appropriate social context.

There’s still one thing about it though, something I really only noticed reading PZ’s post on the rant:

And here it is, THE REASON WHY ALL THAT, sickens us: BECAUSE YOU DONT KNOW SH-T ABOUT COMICS, BEYOND WHATEVER GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH YOU DID TO GET REF ON THE MOST MAINSTREAM CHARACTER WITH THE MOST REVEALING COSTUME EVER.

I read that, and my only thought is: Dude, you know squat about Google, and I can prove it. Continue reading “Whatever Google Image Search You Did”

Mock the Movie: Now With Nazi Time Machines!

There is no trailer for this Thursday’s mockable movie available on YouTube. The entire description of the movie on IMDB is “A Nazi scientist invents a time machine enabling him to go back to alter the events of WWII.” Really, though, what more do you need? Join us this Thursday for The Yesterday Machine, free at YouTube. Or, if you haven’t destroyed your glasses, you can watch it in 3D.

Two weeks from Thursday, on November 29, we will return to SyFy (then SciFi) original movies with Sands of Oblivion. Mock the Movie: A Slight Delay

Because I will be on the road this week for Skepticon, and because two Thursdays from this one is Thanksgiving, we’re delaying Mock the Movie. The Nazi time machine movie will be mocked soundly next Thursday, not this one.

This also means that the Thursday just after Christmas will also be a night for mocking. I think many of us will be ready for a bit of that. We’ll have something special on the agenda.

Mock the Movie: A Slight Delay

Mock the Movie: Everyone Dies

You know how you’re watching a movie in which the plot is driven entirely by the fact that every single character is either a terrible human being or completely incapable of envisioning the most basic cause and effect? You know how you feel when that happen? You know what you want?

This Thursday, October 11, we will be picking up a Belgian gem that will deliver what so many of our movies only promise: The cartoonishly graphic slaughter of despicable people. Seriously, we’re told no one survives the Rabid Grannies. Watch with us on YouTube.

Mock the Movie: Those Two Guys Edition

I know some of you have been very excited about this one.

This Thursday, September 27, as recommended by Rando, we will be watching Moontrap, staring Walter Koenig and Bruce Campbell. We will immerse ourselves in murderous space robots and sexy ancient aliens, not to be confused with the sexy ancient gods from our last movie. This one is free at YouTube.

Mock along as we watch that guy and that other guy from those famous franchises do something that most people have never heard of.

Atheism+ Hashtag Camping

Those of you following the saga of Atheism+ may know that the hashtag has been overrun since the beginning with a small group of people repeating the same objections to Atheism+ that have been answered ad nauseum on every blog thread discussing the topic. Seriously, some of them are downright repetitive, claiming the same objections right after you explain reality to them.

This is why it was so funny when a reader sent me this yesterday. It’s a Storify of a conversation held on the hashtag. Text after the jump.

Twitter Storify. Text provided in post.
