What I Have to Say About That

When faced with so little substance, Twitter really seems the appropriate medium.

There was a problem with the blakbirdpie shortcode

“We are unhappy with the controversy, so we’re going to pretend it never happened.” Wow. MT @center4inquiry: http://bit.ly/15cDp2C

“We’ve realized we can offer no leadership on these issues, so we’re giving up.” MT @center4inquiry: http://bit.ly/15cDp2C

“Decisions are HARD, y’all.” MT @center4inquiry: http://bit.ly/15cDp2C

Ah, professionalism.

Twiitter isn’t showing up on the blog again… what did you say?

My psychic powers tell me you’re reacting to the CFI board notpology. Do I get a cookie?

  2. says

Calling it a notpology is being too charitable. I don’t see any sign of an attempt at any kind of pology at all.

If I sent my members something that vacuous and non-committal, I would be deluged with harsh words. And I hope I would be.

sawells: calling that verbal mush a “notpology” is way too charitable. As another FTBer said, it’s like saying “I’m sorry you’re upset,” minus the “I’m sorry” part. These spineless asshats didn’t even have the guts to admit anything controversial even happened, let alone say what they intended to do about it.

Trebuchet has something nice on that thread too:

That last sentence sounds like something from one of those automatic mission-statement generators.

And the most ironic thing about that is, the CFI board probably gave a LOT more thought to the wording of that statement than an app would give to the same thing.

It’s interesting to see that the majority of retweets are by sockpuppets, harrassers, and misogynists. CFI must be so proud to be appreciated by such folk.

Sooooo… the Center for Inquiry isn’t interested in inquiring further about Lindsey’s behavior.

    mission fail.

How can an organisation based on education, advocacy, and outreach ie dealing with people be so bad at dealing with people. They can’t even seem to work with their own supporters….

This turn of non-events makes me appreciate your post on professionalism all the more. This cult-of-personality phase is so self-defeating, as these organizations will lose so many more volunteers than they gain pats on the back. I suspect it’s part of the sexist world view not to notice just how essential are the efforts of those doing unpaid (or underpaid) work for the cause, as they are disproportionately women– and young people.

Guess what, CFI? People can vote with their feet as well as with their pocketbooks, as Rebecca points out.

Fence sitting is what the BSA did where they allow gay youth to reach out to gays AND ban gay adults to reach out to haters. It won’t work, it never works to try to find the middle ground between eliminationists and the people they hate (a situation that is a good parallel for misogynists and feminists). But at least they managed to throw gays a bone.

This is an attempt to build a 12′ high fence, convince people you are sitting on it, but staying quite safe and sound on the ground on the inside.

    Why thank you!!

If it wasn’t just written for them by Ron Lindsay.

I must be really out of the loop. I have no idea what this blog post means.

[Not complaining about you; just laughing at myself.]
