It’s better to believe

Some people will tell you that there’s a lot of good in religion, and even if it’s not really true, it’s a benign and harmless delusion.

Meet the evidence to the contrary.

A leap of faith that sent an Arizona family bound for the South Pacific in a sailboat has returned them in an airplane after a harrowing ordeal at sea that saw them adrift and nearly out of food in one of the remotest stretches of ocean on the planet.

No doubt they are now busily thanking God for rescuing them from the consequences of their own foolish gullibility. But here’s the other side of this story: the reason they felt that God was leading them away from their homes in the first place.

Hannah Gastonguay, 26, and her husband, Sean, 30, were fed up with abortion, homosexuality, taxes and the “state-controlled church” and so “decided to take a leap of faith and see where God led us…”

Three of their four reasons are driven primarily by their religious beliefs (and it’s a fair bet that by “state-controlled church” they really mean too much separation of church and state instead of too little).

Did I mention their little pilgrimage also involved taking 3-year-old and an infant out to sea in a tiny sailboat for which neither of them had the expertise needed for such a trek?

Benign and harmless indeed.

(They should be glad he didn’t; that would have involved being eaten by a fish. 😛 )

doG led them to Chile – obviously the place it wanted them to go to. Kiribati wouldn’t have worked out – it’ll be underwater by 2100 according to the IPCC. Now by returnng to the doGless USA instead of settling some remote part of Chile, they have thwarted the will of doG and will assuredly be on its hitlist from now on. Plus they’ll owe the doGless US govt for the plane tickets and other asistance provided……..woe is them!

At least Chile is rid of them. Profound faith and dumbass frequently go hand in hand. They are probably now encouraging others to trust in doG.

1rst- My first reaction is of course “Bwahahahahahaha, wait hehehahahahah, sniff, oh shit … tee hee heehehhhaahaaha!!!!”

2nd- I’m still baffled on why two adults (I know, leaving the kids out for the moment) who chose to leave ZOMGless Amurika, because we are so evil, abortionist, homesexual, socialist, satanic etc. and when they wound up in Chile which is totally on thier exact same page on those issues, they agreed to the U.S. Government tickets home. Wern’t they in a ‘better place’?

Also, why in the name of FSM did the State Department actually offer to pay these lunkheads way back, any way? Seems like a good sign of a relationship just not working out to me…
