Fieldfare in a Sycamore Maple Tree.

An absolutely gorgeous thrush, a Fieldfare, in a Sycamore Maple tree from Charly, who notes that this is a seriously shy bird. I know how it goes, trying to get the shy dinosaurs, and these are brilliant shots. Click for full size!

That’s funny. Over here in Finland, bullfinches hide in the woods (during summer, anyway), whereas fieldfares come to destroy your fruit garden. I never considered them either shy or pretty, quite the opposite.

I guess familiarity breeds contempt :)

@lumipuna, they ravage my garden too. Fieldfares and starlings are nuts for cherries, which I do not mind because I do not like them (the cherries, not the birds, ahem). But whenever is someone visible outside, they whoosh away making a racket. I tried to walk closer to the tree, but they let me approach no more than 20 meters and then they either scaper off to another tree, or fly to the very top.
Funny thing is, they do not seem to mind cars. So maybe one day I will sneak up to one in a car for close shot :). I might have a hope to get one through the window when the cherries are ripe.

Gorgeous photos, Charly! I especially like the one in full song.
I see these birdies a lot, but as you say, they’re extremely shy, which is a shame, because they have such beautiful earth-toned patterning.
