Still Workin’

Work, Work, Work 80. After playing about a bit, I decided to use DMC Perle 3 for the foliage; I have it in abundance, thanks to the generosity of Kestrel, and in all the colours needed for Autumn foliage. I hadn’t noticed at the time Kestrel sent me all this bounty, but all of the Perle is vintage, all the labels are old style, and there’s not a bar code in sight! As I’m already using a good amount of vintage threads, that makes the choice all the better. The quality of it is fantastic, and it’s a joy to use. Current Hours: 1,098.5 1,100.* Skeins Used: 161. For those who don’t know, one skein is 8 meters (8.7 yards). Click for full size.

Woohoo! It is coming along beautifully. Also, so awesome to see that thread being used to create more beauty in the world.

It is such a gift to have that, because I had already resigned myself to having to spend another $200.00 or so on the thread to do the foliage. So, perfect in more than one way!

    That’s almost 1.3 km of thread, 1.17 m/h.

Deep green foliage as it looks now (fun to see how this will turn out). Here I would interpret that as after midsummer foliage.

Last year, I went and traveled gravel a bit, to take photos of Autumn leaves, and even brought some samples home. I was really struck by how many trees were still predominantly green, with patches of bright yellow leaves, a deep, plummy burgundy, and blazing orange. Some trees here go full red. So I’ll go with full blazes of colour, but the green will dominate. It will not only be less boring for me to do, it will tie into the tree trunk much better than straight green would.

I’ll also be doing the foliage in French knots, which uses up more thread, so that makes using the perle a more sensible choice, as they’re 15 meters (16.4 yards). As a point of interest, the modern, current skeins of perle are 25 meters (27.3 yards).
